I'm a bit confused. Portland doesn't have any cap space right now and won't have any on draft day to be able to 'absorb' a contract.

Is Quick saying that we should be on the lookout for a trade on draft day itself? Or the rumor of a trade that has been agreed upon on draft day that won't actually happen until July?

Maybe it's Matthews and freeland for the center? That equals around 10.5 mil in return salary

I believe that and making a deal that can't be consummated until a certain date are what he is saying

Maybe a sign and trade involving Hickson?

    Or this

I still think it more than likely trading the rights to our pick and whatever else for someone.

Can't happen on draft day. Thats why I think Storyteller is confused.

I would assume it's agreed to on draft day, and made official when we hae cap space, depending on the player.

Who would do better in a Salary Cap pop quiz, Jason Quick or David Kahn?

Hmmm. Tough choice. One writes about things that can't be done and the other tries to do things that can't be done, so I'm going with Kahn.

Storyteller was confused about Quick mentioning a "draft day" trade; which would give us a center. We don't have cap space until after JUly 1st

Just looked at this and it could save enough room for Houston to go after Howard this summer.

    http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=d7brcpg

Jeffries and the lop sided trade will give Houston 3 more million to play with. They can option out Garcia, Delfino and Brooks; which leaves them well over 20 million in free space.

They would have a tandem of Howard, Lin and Harden; while still being able to keep Scola, Robinson, WHIte, Jones, Motiejunas. That's a very solid rotation. They would still have another 6 million to offer another player.

Someone might want to tell Phoenix that Houston is keeping Scola...

Actually, they don't need him, they already have a excellent 21-year old power forward in Greg Smith. Plus they also have 21-year old Terence Jones and 21-year old Thomas Robinson.

If we give them the cap space they need to sign Howard, I think we should try to get both Asik and one of their young power forwards to back up Aldridge.

Going to go ahead and venture a guess that if Houston is looking to dump Asik because they can sign Howard, they are going to find FAR better offers than Freeland.

Right. If it's a trade on draft day, it's not being made with cap space, which would mean one or more current players definitely leaving the team. But an uneven trade after the July moratorium could mean no current players leaving. So since I didn't have the chance to hear Quick's actual interview, I was seeking clarification on what he actually said.

I had an interesting talk with a buddy of mine who is a die hard Jazz fan. One of the few I know who is pretty knowledgeable about basketball. Al Jefferson will not be back and he can't wait for it to happen.

His view was the Jazz have two band-aids on their team. Big Al and Mo Williams. He understand both are playing well right now, but neither should be included in any long terms plans for the Jazz. He can not stand Jefferson. Same reasons that were stated on this board. Black hole and no D. He hopes we sign him.
