You know what? I overreacted. I thought I read somewhere that the President was preempting television coverage for a speech. Turns out I misread and jumped to a conclusion.

My bad. Sorry to come off like such a dick about it. This whole situation has me pretty upset.

EDIT: Solid statement by the President. Offer encouragement, promise to find the culprits, then STFU and let the professionals do their jobs. Kudos.

I don't think I could care less about this. It's the whole Pray for Boston, Thank God it wasn't worse attitude. Can't stand it.

I care much more about the tens of thousands of people starving to death every day.

So fucking sad. CBS just showed video of a kid digging through a mass of injured people on the ground after the explosion.

So, a couple of things that seem odd to me. First is the size of the bomb. These seem relatively small. The video of the bomb going off seems like it could have been waaaaay worse. Luckily that wasn't the case. What is really odd is that this on one hand seems sophisticated in its coordination, but on the other hand seems amateurish in the size of the blasts (again, luckily it wasn't bigger). The 2nd odd thing is the timing. I would think that if a terrorist group wanted to make the biggest splash, like they normally do, they would have either hit when the winners crossed (biggest media/fan presence). It would have taken more careful planning, so that could very well be the reasoning for the timing.

There was a large medial tent right by the finish line that had more medical personal than any emergency room in the city.

The bomb doesn't have to be big to achieve what they were wanting to achieve. What if they were simply hoping to cause panic and disturb our way of life? You don't have to kill a ton of people to accomplish that goal.

Also there were discussions and precautions taken about just such an incident ahead of time (not from any threat, just in general because it's such a famous event), so there were some people who know exactly what steps to take.

Also, there are three or four very high level trauma unit hospitals very close by, hardly anywhere in America would be as well equipped for large scale trauma cases as Boston.
