That is against the rules. Teams cannot trade until July 1st, therefor nothing can be announced on draft day. I think Quick just fucked up.

Right, but it can still be agreed to on draft day, which is exactly what we did to land Bayless in the draft. And we all knew about it, but it had to wait until salaries reset

Okay but it still means Quick was wrong. Technically you cannot announce any draft until after July 1st.

    This literally happens every year.

If I go to you and say I want Hibbertt (for example) and you say ok, I want your pick and Leonard (God willing) then I would simply draft who you want at #12 and deal him to you with Leonard after the moratorium

But the trade cannot be announced on draft day, correct? I am talking about during draft day, Stern or whomever says "We have a trade!" Can that happen or not?

No it doesn't at all. They'd be using their (future) space, and the deal would be made(agreed to, not official) the day of the draft, with us making the pick for the other team.

This is right, but they can make a draft day trade....unofficially. Or a draft day trade with salaries officially

Most likely one of the people covering it will say something like this pick isn't for Portland, and go from there....If somethign does indeed happen

Trades can be agreed to, though. The Brandon Roy-Randy Foye trade wasn't 'official' until July 1st, but was agreed upon on draft day.

It isn't that you can't trade on draft day. Of course you can.

You can't trade for someone if you don't have cap space for them though. At the draft we are still working off of this years cap space. We don't get all our cap room until a couple weeks after the draft.

OOOoooh. Gotcha. Should really read the whole thread before asking stupid questions.

And yes, as people have been saying, there have been two-part trades on draft day, where one trade involves things like the pick (no salary cap involved) and then later comes a second "unrelated" trade that, if viewed by itself, looks unbalanced, but put together with the other one makes sense. Wasn't the trade with Zach like that?

Timofey Mozgov Isn't Focused On Upcoming Free Agency
    Apr 16, 2013 2:00 PM EDT

    http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/227231/Timofey-Mozgov-Isnt-Focused-On-Upcoming-Free-Agency

MILWAUKEE – All season long, Timofey Mozgov has made clear his desire for an increased role in the Denver Nuggets’ rotation. George Karl has trusted Kosta Koufos and JaVale McGee as his two centers, though, and Mozgov has played just 40 games.

At this point, Mozgov wants to deflect his impending free agency to the side and focus on the Nuggets’ playoff run. Mozgov had been expected to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and he told RealGM that he hasn’t heard any indication about a possible qualifying offer tender from the Nuggets and isn’t worrying about where he could play next season.

“I don’t want to think right now about what is going on in the summer,” Mozgov said. “Now we have playoff time … games we got to win. It will be a time for [a decision] in the summer.”

Although he continues to sit on the bench, Mozgov hasn’t lost his workout habits – lifting weights, running on a treadmill and working on low-post moves every day. His most playing time this season came in a Jan. 28 win over the Indiana Pacers, when he scored 10 points and grabbed three rebounds in 25 minutes.

Mozgov was an integral piece in the Carmelo Anthony trade of 2011, and the 26-year-old center still believes there’s plenty of time to show exactly why.

“I feel confident I can play,” Mozgov said. “I know I can play and I know Coach knows I can play, so I feel confident. I just need some [playing] time.”

Someone just posted a day or two ago that Mozgov did get a Qualifying offer so he will be restricted. Did they not tell Timofey?

I know we have discussed going after McGee since we assume Denver can't afford all three of their centers. I wonder what salary offer it would take to keep Denver from matching for Mozgov. I am sure 9 million would do it. But I doubt we would do that.

Salary-wise it might depend on if Iggy opts out. His QO is 3.925 so his cap hit has to be around 6 MIL. So we would have to pay 7 MIL or more I think. Which is a lot for a guy who I like but may not be any better than Leonard.
