Re: Apparently, It's Against The Law To Distribute Christian Literature In Dearborn,

So if I say I agree with you legally again, can you say you agree with me morally? Just because they are christian does not exempt them from being a jackass (not you, the people in the video). Also as stated in this thread there were other anti muslim issues going on, and as stated before they had the right to distribute their material form a certain distance. Just as I assume in Vegas you can not distribute porn pamphlets near a grade school.

Re: Apparently, It's Against The Law To Distribute Christian Literature In Dearborn,

The video I posted took place during the 2010 event. The link MARIS posted described the 2012 event.

My point is, I'm pretty certain that fringe groups have taken the opportunity to stir things up over the years. From all that I can gather, though, the 2010 group presented themselves as peace-keeping.....yet, were still "illegally" dealt with.

This is the follow-up video that related to that same 2010 event:

Re: Apparently, It's Against The Law To Distribute Christian Literature In Dearborn,

Yes, if there were atheists standing outside this festival, doing the same thing, I'd feel the same way. If someone chooses to buy his book, listen to him speak, etc (btw, I've done none of these things), it is no different than someone choosing to go to church, seek advice/guidance from a christian or picking up a bible. I'm all for people finding a purpose/religion, but on their own terms. I'm talking about specifically seeking out people who believe differently from them in the pursuit of converting them to their beliefs. This is true for this group, just like it's true for the church spreading the word of god to the new word centuries ago. Obviously different tactics were at play back then, but the end goal was the same. Convince someone that they are living an improper/immoral/sinful/hedonistic life and that they should believe/live as you do.

Of course I can agree with you on the moral end. There is so much bullshit that pisses me off when one belief forces theirs on others. But I'm a different animal you know.

But that's not your argument. This is no way different than the atheist Dawkins going on a public telecast arguing and parading around about god being a delusion.

A belief doesn't mean anything unless you find people to share the belief. How will anyone find you out unless you try and seek them out? The way of doing it can be debated, but saying a church passing out tracks is wrong; is a silly statement

Re: Apparently, It's Against The Law To Distribute Christian Literature In Dearborn,

    well stated

did you know that in Bagdad, if you knew nothing about the Koran, you could be made a slave, a devout muslim would be duty bound to ensure that you understood it.

Re: Apparently, It's Against The Law To Distribute Christian Literature In Dearborn,

When you viewed the video I had posted of the 2010 event, did you see anything they did that offended you in any way? That said, what took place during the 2012 event appeared to be very wrong. Totally different, (and, I'm rather certain, bigoted) group, though.

Re: Apparently, It's Against The Law To Distribute Christian Literature In Dearborn,

Yeah, I see the date now. I knew I shouldn't have cited him, haha. The only date in the article is how the protesters got more aggressive in 2009, so I figured this was from the same year. Still doesn't really change anything. This is an edited video with no pretext of what transpired before their '3 minutes' to prove a point that they had likely predetermined.

If that's the only evidence in court; it means everything.

"Muslim church" to the judge "that wasn't the only thing that happened!"

Judge. "What evidence of the other things you mentioned?"

    Muslim church "we have nothing"

Judge says "okay well I will strike your testimony"

Re: Apparently, It's Against The Law To Distribute Christian Literature In Dearborn,

Then change the channel. If you watch that channel, it is your choice. Passing out pamphlets isn't the issue (again, I'm just talking about personally, not legally), it's going to an Arab festival with the specific purpose of either inciting them or convince them that they are living an improper lifestyle.

but we're not going to court off of this video, and the police didn't arrest them for what they saw on the video, obviously.

Re: Apparently, It's Against The Law To Distribute Christian Literature In Dearborn,

Their actions, no. I don't see anything inherently wrong with them. Their intentions are different. I'm not sure if offended is the right word, but I don't find what they are trying to do all that savory. But again, I don't know what else there was. Same reason I don't take too much away from most 10 minute youtube video.

Re: Apparently, It's Against The Law To Distribute Christian Literature In Dearborn,

    That's cool.

That said, if other peace-keeping groups (Islamic, gays/lesbian, Krishnas, geeks for Satan, etc.) want to do the same, I have no issues. Free country, man...I just keep walking.

Re: Apparently, It's Against The Law To Distribute Christian Literature In Dearborn,

Yeah, I just walk by them all. Except those geeks for satan. They are AGGRESSIVE! I do the same with activist groups. Most the time I just walk around with headphones so none of them talk to me.

Re: Apparently, It's Against The Law To Distribute Christian Literature In Dearborn,

Now, when people are proselytizing in public I just walk by and don't give them the time of day. But when I was younger I was more confrontational. I got in arguments and I made crass comments. Most of it was juvenile. However, I was quite proud of one time on the PSU campus when there was a preacher who was really assertive and annoying. It happened that on that day I had a harmonica in my pocket and I'm a pretty good harper. I started playing against him, a bunch of blues, and pretty soon it attracted a group that started clapping along. The preacher was getting drowned out, and one of the other pedestrians started making up dinamite blues lyrics that fit the situation. The Preacher tried to get away but we followed him anywhere he went on campus for about 20 minutes hindering his ability to spread the word. Finally the crowd left and so did I.
