What a steaming pile of crap. Forgetting that it's completely unrealistic that North Korea invades the United States, this movie was just horribly made. I have always loved the original movie. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was realistic, but it had way more grit, drama, and emotion. The new one had none of that.

When some of the main characters died in the original, you could feel the loss. There was impact. When someone dies in the new one, there's no impact. They don't make you feel it at all. "Oh, there goes another one. That sucks I guess."

I had a feeling it was going to suck, so I'm glad I waited until video and only paid 1.25.

Right. We all know it's going to be Canada that invades.

Where do they make this stuff up?

So are you saying that North Korea has the capabilities to invade the United States?

You might already know this but the enemies were supposed to be the Chinese. They decided they wanted to sell the film in China as well so they switched it to the North Koreans in post.

Good thing we all look alike! So, since that was done in post production, does it look like horrible dubbing (80s/90s kung fu style)? Or do all the chine...er North Koreans just speak English with an Asian accent?

What's funny about that is how we've almost completely stopped making movies about the Pacific Theater during WWII because we don't want to offend the Japanese, yet we're still pounding away on the Germans because fuck them. The Japanese committed unbelievable atrocities during WWII, but since they consist of such a huge part of our economy, we can't afford to offend them.

I don't know... your post was confusing.

Were you saying that North Korea is about as likely as Canada invading?

I was saying we all know Korea is no threat yet. But you always have to watch out for the Canucks.

They've been making raids across our borders for decades, with little to no repercussions!

I wonder if it could be that movies set in Europe during WWII do better at the box office, or because many major movie producers are Jewish?

Not just that many movie producers are Jewish, but also that Sony is such a huge part of the film industry.

Also, the war in the Pacific was a much dirtier war. Jungle fighting is a horrible horrible thing. The Pacific was a good glimpse into the awful living situation the Marines endured.

But that's why so many Naval movies were made about the Pacific theater. There were some epic sea battles in the Pacific.

The answer may be a little more simple than you think. During WW II, the hatred between the Japanese and Americans was downright racial and racist.

So maybe it is easier to have white hollywood going after white villains.

Plus these days you have Neo Nazis in most countries so people can identify with the aryan as bad guy stereotype.

There are Japanese bad guys in movies. Certainly films like Pearl Harbor or Tora Tora Tora. Or even films with Yakuza as enemy.

    In fact,

Bad Guys for Bad Times; Hollywood Struggles to Create Villains for a New Climate

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 2— After more than a decade of fumbling about in search of a workable bad guy upon which to hang its crowd-pleasing action blockbusters, Hollywood has been handed the gift of actual national villains in the form of Islamic terrorists. But unlike the months after Pearl Harbor, when moviemakers enthusiastically embraced stereotypes of Japanese evil, this time the entertainment industry has opted for restraint to avoid accusations of bias and the danger of offending audience sensibilities in an increasingly multiracial America.

''People are so much more attuned to issues of racism today than they were after Pearl Harbor,'' said Robert Sklar, a film historian at New York University. ''That's why one of the big questions about movies and television in recent years has been, because of race, How do you represent the villains?'' He added, ''Bad guys in movies in recent years have been evil white guys, suggesting a kind of turncoat or traitor figure, as opposed to an enemy from outside.''

Tora Tora Tora was ages ago. Pearl Harbor went out of their way to make it look like the Japanese had no choice but to attack us.

But you're right, it's okay to go after the Germans because they're white and because they know they did a horrible thing that Hollywood will never let them forget.
