See other thread about DRtg but mainly Olshey connection and that we are getting Center at draft (which means not a free agent or restricted).
I wouldn't mind Jordan if we have a strong willed player leadership. Acquiring Jordan would be adding a potentially dissenting type of character to our team.
Would rather go after Al Jefferson if you're going after Pekovic, he's unrestricted, probably about as talented as Pek, and Utah will probably let him go since they have some young guys that need PT.
I was a big on Pek a few months ago but now i'm not sure if I want to spend all of our capspace on him. I'd rather get a few bench players then Pek and I'd rather have Jordan then McGee but i'm hoping we get someone better.
I don't think we have to worry about Utah bidding for his services. How many teams have cap space and no center. Besides us?
Teams that need a Center and have as much cap space as us: ATL (if you consider Horford more a PF) UTH (not likely to bring him back though) SAS (if you think Duncan is a PF) So teams that have more room then us are sketchy whether they need a Center. I didn't list CLE but you could say Vareajo is more PF also. Teams that have a Center but might want to upgrade are NOH, CHA, and DAL.
Thanks for doing that. If we wanted Pec, from that list I would guess we would have a pretty good shot. (other than Minnesota of course) I think he gets 9-10 mil a year.
I don't think Utah has any desire for pek at all. They are letting Jefferson walk because they want to play Kanter and Favors
The difference on Pek is if we offer 9-10 a year then he most certainly is going back to MIN in a matching deal. I don't want the guy but if you do want him then you have to overspend to have a shot. And then they still might match. I would just stay away.
Hypothetically, what about working out a S&T with them? Come to a 9-10 million deal with his agent, and then send them 10 for 26 not to match? is that too much? Not enough? That would still leave Portland with 6 or so million to add another FA, plus a draft pick that we could probably package with our three 2nds and move up a bit to get someone like McDermott or Dieng?
MIN needs a good Center though. I don't think they are any more ready to turn the gig over to a rookie then we are.
This is true, but they also have $$$ to worry about. If AK47 opts in, they will be at about 60mm with a re-signed Pek at close to the max and still several roster positions to fill. maybe they would rather turn their eyes to someone like Dalembert and draft one of the 172 centers in this draft
Pek will be a team's biggest mistake next season. He will demand a contract that isn't based on actual performance and his lack of defense will make his fan base go mad watching games. I sure hope Portland isn't even entertaining the idea.
