Chrome is the best all around, IMO. For Mac, and maybe Windows, Safari is great for just browsing. By "all around" I mean for browsing and making WWW pages.
Loved Chrome but it started eating too much RAM for my ancient laptop so I had to switch to Firefox. No complaints at all about FF, but if my computer could handle it I'd still be using Chrome.
I have 61 tabs open in Chrome right now. It's using a tad more than 3G. So ~50M per tab. Chrome is arrogant about using memory. Google browser is an application that's also an OS in their minds. So they tune for its performance, who cares about anything else you run. How'd I get 61 tabs open? Something I notice about using a Mac is I don't close my tabs very often...
Chrome lately. Honestly, from a non-tech persons perspective, I think they are all pretty close to even.
Webkit based browsers are in the Apple and Android phones, Chrome and Safari. It's one heck of a thing to have all the mobile companies and Google and Apple spending big bucks making the software better. I have firefox installed on my computer but I honestly don't remember the last time I used it. The only time in the past 5 years that I've run IE is in cases where IE is required for a specific site or to test that my WWW stuff works in IE.
You're a sucker for the sturdy and reliable IE? I'm sort of average as far as my technological incliniation and I'd say that the difference between Chrome and FF is almost 0. They're both really great. But IE and Safari are straight up crap and a pain in my balls to use. Can't say I've ever used Opera for more than 5 mins.
Safari 6 is really good. Bookmarks are synced across my computers, my iPad, and my iPhone. Heck, if I have a page open on my desktop, I can see that on my phone and open it there, too. It's almost identical to Chrome, except the developer tools are weaker. But for developing WWW stuff for mobile, you can use the desktop browser dev tools to communicate with the device over USB.
I get the same impression. I don't understand how Chrome would be giving people viruses.. I've never gotten one. Ads? Never see 'em.
I have heard some good things about Opera as well. I use FireFox I just don't like how it will freeze up for a moment when loading pages sometimes or is it just me?
