I really hope she doesn't take credibility to teaching him English.

By the sounds of it, the packets are teaching him English, and he's frustrated about it while she sits there and paints her toenails. She probably has a great pension, though! I thought it was a pretty composed rant for a HS student, one grammatical error aside.

Doubt she has a pension, she looked young.

Somehow i think it was staged. Notice that none of the other students said much of anything.

I don't think it was staged. You could hear his voice start to quiver like he was on the very verge of crying. If that was acting, he was pretty impressive.

I'm not sure that's always a good sign, but it could be.

It also could be that he someone with a disability, and it is not uncommon for their voices to quiver when they get agitated.

I would love to know the back story on that. It seems like the kid might be new to the class or the school and very unhappy with that teacher using pre packaged material to teach the class...I know how un inspired I have been in situations like that..and yes,I am projecting a bit here..

I'm guessing a lot of the posters here he should have just sat there like a dummy and let himself be indoctrinated with mindless printed propaganda.

I think if the kid was getting frustrated and tired of the teaching method, it's good that he spoke his mind. Without knowing any of the back story, it may or may not have been the right path to present his problem. Calling out the teacher in class and not going to the principal or talking to the teacher after class is asking for conflict. I think it's good to see the video. Perhaps it's just me, but I can't help but feel a little "white standing up against the lazy black" is a motivation in showing this.

Would one of you Yanks be so kind as to tell me what a packet is?

it's several papers stapled together. Staples are small pieces of metal wire which bind things.

    :rolleyes3:

So it's notes or something stemming from standardization? I mean would the same high school course taught by multiple teachers all have the same packets?

Quite possibly. But I'm assuming he's complaining about the fact she just gave them packets to study while she sits there and diddles herself. Rather than, oh, I dunno.... teach.

I've never had a teacher hand out notes (presumably with questions) and sit down. If that's what she's doing that's atrocious. She's less a teacher and more a study hall monitor. Never mind the fact the student is a drop-out who came back who may have some issues.

Sounds like the teacher has been put on leave.
