Sounds like a cake job.... she could bring a computer and surf the web while her students do whatever they want to do.
The teacher passively remained in her seat because she could see a student filming. In my day, the teacher would have either been in his face, or have left to get the Asst. Principal.
Back in your day the teacher was wearing a corset and would slap the shit out of kids with a ruler.
In the 1st grade, my teacher whapped me with the highly visible paddle that hung from a nail near her desk. In the 3rd grade, the teacher just talked about doing it but didn't.
Agreed^. I kept waiting for him to drop F bombs. But he didn't. He dropped "bitching" in an okay form. He wasn't some upset kid that was intentionally disrespecting. He had a point to make, and he I thought, overall, he did pretty well. That's what I do. Except I'm not a teacher.
The video doesn't provide enough background to really take a side. Those that claim they would have stood up and clapped for this kid already have a bias that they're blindly hoping this video proves. And even if this video is an accurate representation of both sides of the story, I can agree with his point, but his way of expressing his displeasure shouldn't be applauded and is pretty stupid.
hmm you are correct, in that it does not provide enough information...I thinkIwilldig into this and see what I can find out. It does look like he just hit a "WTF" moment, clearly he was upset..I have to think that the fact we have camera phone video would lead me to believe that there was discourse before hand..
He's a former drop out who probably went back to school because he wanted to learn, and he wasn't being taught anything. That's got to be frustrating for someone eager to improve their life.
some info on the Kid http://www.upi.com/blog/2013/05/09/...-for-being-lazy-in-viral-video/5521368143365/ nice four min news interview http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=12d_1368136766
So you don't feel you can judge entirely where to stand because of the limited knowledge you have of the situation, but you have enough information to judge his actions as being foolish and that they should be discouraged? I think this line of thinking is contradictory and typical of the bow-before-authority crowd.
Excellent display of a reading comprehension failure. Try reading it again. Hint: Pay attention where I typed "if this video is an accurate representation of both sides of the story..."
The kid wasn't disciplined and the teacher was put on leave. Tells me that there were probably complaints about the teacher previous to this courageous young man standing up and expressing things not only for himself, but also for his generation. I see a young man with a bright future if he's given the right type of educational mentors and leaders.
Yes the kid is a real fucking hero. While other high school students donate their time to community service projects, to the elderly, to making an impact on society, joining clubs like the book club or yearbook . . . this kid gets on his soapbox for a 30-60 seconds of rant and is gone. Why doesn't he practice what he preaches and put some time into making his thoughts into action. Go to teachers privately, write the principal a letter and follow up, go to the student body . . . get other kids interested in changing things Isn't that his grip, teacher isn't motivating students and he has all the answers. Yet his way of dealing with it is to vent at the teacher? My guess is he is some lazy ass student who talks a good game but wouldn't put the time in it really takes to change things he says he cares so much about. Instead he will throw out his revolutionary thoughts as he bitches to the teacher. Deep man, real deep. So many kids are full of talk but don't have the work ethics to back up what they are so passionate about . . .
Is this the part where you start screaming at people looking at you while parked on their street again? The kid is back in class, the teacher has been booted. I'm guessing you never went to a shitty school. LOL about "community service". That's what rich kids at rich public and private schools have time to do to pad their college resumes. Many kids in urban or poor environments are just trying to stay in school or have a home to live in that night. Look up Duncanville...
No this is the part you start screaming at people how stupid Americans are. American citizens are stupid and this guy is a hero . . . you got America (or whatever it is you call it) all figured out.
Agree with the sentiment. And honestly the kid came off as a dumbass... not sure why so many folks are giving his ramblings so much credit... he's in high school, not elementary school. Maybe the teacher sucks, but who didn't have a lot of shitty high school teachers? That's high school man... the kid just chose to go about it in the wrong way... I think Treaty of Batum probably has him pegged.
Yep. Teacher suspended, kid back in class. Of course, he could have gone through various bureaucratic channels to voice his complaints, because that always works out well. Or, he could have just called out a lazy teacher who was in CTC mode, had somebody film it, and got her lazy ass suspended while giving a good speech. Not surprised that the Democrats here are the ones defending the teacher, BTW. This kid is a hero, IMO. I never had a teacher this bad in HS, but I certainly didn't notice any of the kids shouting him down in favor of their 'leader' in the classroom. Since she's on leave, I'm going to guess she berated the kids for not passing tests. More of this story will soon come out, I'm sure.
