It's one of the most common ways that we judge ourselves and one another. Someone bragging about how much they make is often going to be branded a d-bag, the assumption being that the salary is intended to demonstrate superiority. Those who are dissatisfied with their salary will keep that information secret because they are ashamed of what their salary says about their intrinsic value.

To sort of answer your question I am in the 25% tax bracket if filling single and 15% if filing jointly. I know that is a big range though. :)

Do you look at people differently depending on how much they make. Is that just a natural reaction, to respect somebody more if they make more?

For me, it was the opposite. When I made crap, I was free with the information. I would commiserate with my friends. When I started to make a bit more, I became more reticent in sharing what I made. Now, I'm silent on the fact. The only people who know are my wife and my accountant.

    $0.

Thought I'd get the ball rolling for the rest of you, if someone needed someone else to go first.

This would be because you're not a d-bag, and you were secure enough in yourself in your younger days to not be defined by your salary. In America, you're an exception.

I don't know. It's just always such a no no thing to talk about. Just had a real weird experience at Subway with these 2 guys. I walked in, got something and sat down next to them and they couldn't stop staring at me and giving me dirty looks. They were dressed up in nice suits. And I had this preconceived notion of them, as I assume they had of me. I was wearing some Blazer shorts, running shoes and a white T on. I actually felt uncomfortable (which rarely happens) the way they kept looking at me.

Then they started talking about work, this deal and that. This meeting and that and then they were actually talking about their income, which surprised me.

I kinda' smiled, because I actually make alot more then both those chumps and they were acting like I was going to steal their wallet the whole time I was there.

Just got me to thinkin' about how people are treated based on there income, and that's just wacked! I know it's a package thing and your appearance plays a big part, but those dorks kind of upset me today. We all joke on here about stuff, but I was honestly curious how you guys think about others and what they make and your own social status whatever it is.

Actually the only person on here I've ever heard blast others seriously is the dork with the Stanford avatar. He's always cracking on Zags about what he does for a living and how "little" he makes. I just think thats over the line and uncool.
