I've heard lotteries described as a tax on stupid people who don't understand statistics. That said, I'm not proud and I bought my powerball tickets this morning.
It always makes me laugh how people rush out to get a powerball ticket when it gets so ridiculously big but ignore it when its at lower levels. Like "nah 10million isnt enough for me to waste my time with". Of course I bought my ticket yesterday though.
Expected value: It means if my odds of winning don't change much, but how much I can win goes up a lot, it's worth it to spend that 2$.
I'm buying one in a little bit. Always fun to play powerball esp when the pot is so high. If I ever win it I'm going to buy 4 season tickets to Blazer games and have fun figuring out how to always give 2 of them away. My favorite thing about the lottery is the ridiculous facts that come from it. You are more likely to get stuck by lightning twice then when the lottery. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
i bought two tickets for 4 bucks total. No expectations of winning, just a few bucks into the wind for the right to day dream.
My wife buys a ticket every week and ALWAYS seems surprised when she turns them in and comes up snake eyes. It's sorta endearing
The HCP has never bought a lottery ticket or even one of those scratch off tickets. I know I can't complain about never winning! Sent from HCPs Baller-Ass iPhone 5...FAMS!
That is the way I look at it . . . buying my day dream for the day. I sit there in my car during rush hour traffic figuring different ways I would allocate it. Buying a helicopter always seems to jump out at me during traffic . . .
When I win this jackpot, I am buying out a section of the RG for my SportsTwo peeps. How awesome would it be to watch 41 games in person with 50 dudes from this forum? (and Spud, should she choose to attend)
I don't know where to post this clip, but I think it's a winner, so here you go
I'd buy a corporate package on the rail. 24 seats or so. Black seats and free food! Plus two courtside tickets for the winners\ of the monthly prediction game and a guest. I'd be sitting there the other games! A boy can dream...
I only play megabucks, and consider it an investment in my state's quality of life, and therefore in mine. Powerball $ goes mostly to other states I don't really care about. The prize payoff amount is always high enough to make the investment worthwhile, but larger payoffs play no factor in my playing. Anything over a couple million would be money I'd give away anyway.
