I wa always terrible on offense, I was just a PF ready to play tough D back in High school. Since then, nothing organized, play at park or with friends an play anything but pg. I played PF but I only 5'9". But I foul hard and played dirty.
I should play PF/C every time, because I'm 6 foot 1, fat and can shoot a decent hook shot. But I'm also terrible, so I prefer to drift to the corner and shoot the three.
I guess I'd say power forward as well. Playing defense and rebounding has always been my favorite. I've got a little baby hook shot and fade away from the post that are killer. If I'm playing with actual giant people, my offense gets changed to Matt Bonner's.
I like playing SF or PF depending on who I am playing with. Prefer to play defense and rebound, but one of my good buddies is 6'6 so I like to feed him the ball down low too.
Hey i was a slightly taller than the guys i was playing against overweight pf that sucked too! I think that may be the position those of us that can kind of rebound and nothing else gravitate to.
Basically, except I could never rebound. I just don't have a nose for the ball. I'm the anti Z-Bo. But, I do like to shoot (and can) as long as no one is playing D on me...
Starting PG in high school for 2 years. Actually thought I was good enough to walk on in college, barely made the "practice squad" (told no real hope of making team, but I could be the glorified water boy) . . . . . . . . for a weak division III school.
Skinny and 6'4", always played center. Excellent shot blocker, decent rebounder, but too weak to do anything offensively in the post. Late in my high school life I actually learned to handle the ball and became a pretty good distributor, but due to my height and rep, nobody would ever let me run the point.
Exactly the same here. Played jr high ball, averaged 0.75 points per game, but 3 blocks. I'd goad point guards into driving by me then cap them and take the ball away.
In Jr. high I ran the offense and defended PFs because I handled decently but passed very well, didn't shoot much, and rebounded like a fugging animal. Didn't play organized bball again but I played tons of pickup through college. Was mostly a PF type even though I'm 5'9 because I'm a really good rebounder and was obsessed with Duncan and Elton Brand growing up so my post game is way ahead of my perimeter game. I lost 20 lbs after freshman year of college and since then my perimeter game has expanded and I'm more of a SF kind of wing now usually but still have games where I've gotta be PG or PF/C. I fucking HATE guarding smaller (see: quicker) players and I do really well on guys who are a little bigger than me.
PG. Great distributor with a streaky jumper. When I'm on, I can make some ridiculous shot from deep. When I'm off, I can be awful with my jumper. Tough defensive player. No floater, but good at taking guys off the dribble, getting contact and finishing. The reverse layups my best friend. Guys love playing with me because I find creative ways to get them the rock and I'm unselfish to the point that I can be content only taking a few shots a game. I played in a league on Tuesdays and Wednesdays of last year. I've been too busy this year to do it. My real sports were baseball and wrestling.
I was a screen-setting beast at PF or C, and a halfway-decent rebounder. My real strength was blocking out their rebounders so my guys could get the ball, which I found much easier than going after the ball itself with my 3/4" vertical leap and my 18 second 40. Most of the time I could make put-backs consistently but anything outside of ten feet I was lucky to hit the backboard, except for one stretch of three or four city league games when I just couldn't miss even if I tried. I played city league ball for several years, and I can't remember finishing a season without some sort of cast. Heck, in one game everyone else fouled out with about two minutes to play, so I went in the game and hung out under our basket. I ended up with one steal and one assist, and I even made a bucket, all the while never going more than five feet in any direction, lol. Oh, and when I fouled someone, they stayed fouled.
Yeah, thank goodness for skiing for me. I had no shot at college ball, but I did go to a mid-major DI school and had a lot of fun playing pick up ball and frat league ball. My uncle was the starting PG for the university I ended up attended for 3 years, and freshman couldn't play back then. My dad was an undersized SG who played out our rival school, but he quit after his sophomore season to concentrate on chasing skirt and beer drinking.
