I think there is a better way.

The government tells Mr. Businessman, "If you hire an illegal immigrant to work for you two things will happen. You will not be allowed to write off that person's wages as a business expense, period. That goes for any and all illegal immigrants you hire. Additionally, you will be fined a mandatory $50,000 for every illegal you are caught hiring." Of course, this would require that some additional laws to be passed, (which won't happen, because there is no political will to do so.) The net result of those things happening is that there would be no jobs here to attract them to the US.

The laws need to be changed so that illegals can be readily identified. (I.e., in Oregon, state police cannot even ask the question.)

The laws need to be changed so that children of illegal immigrants born here are not citizens.

Finally, they would have to stop the giveaways to the illegal immigrants. No welfare, healthcare, no in-state tuition rates, no free K-12 education.

If the government was serious about the problem, and did the above, what would be the draw for them to come here? No jobs, no free benefits.....what would keep them here?

But, alas, as pointed out above, I think the dems are addicted to the votes of the illegal crowd (and their legal relatives), and the Reps like the cheap labor. Where is the incentive to change anything?

If you wanted the minimum wage to be $15/hr, deporting illegal aliens would be the way to do it.

Repped. We don't do nearly enough to address the employers.

Yeah. Deny 11M people a living and they'll all be homeless, their kids will starve, and whatever taxes they pay now won't be collected. They're at least paying sales taxes when they spend.

We really should go after the businesses that hire them. Indeed. Make them pay minimum wage like they have to pay anyone else.

Or, instead of deporting for race or ethnicity, how about deporting them because they are criminals, here in violation of the law of the land?

Maybe I missed the assignment. I guess you want a method that deports 11M illegal immigrants that doesn't cost much and causes no pain for the people that caused the problems by breaking our laws.

    Got it.

Forced migration of 11M people would be an international crime on the order of the Nazi death camps. I don't say that lightly. 11 million people.

If you smoke pot, consider you're breaking our laws.

Yeah, except that we aren't going to kill 11 million people, it's just like the Nazis.

And, yeah, entering a country illegally is just like driving over 55, or smoking a joint.

Mexico puts you in jail for entering their country illegally. But, for some reason, lots of folks think it's just peachy for them to break our laws with no concern for being jailed for deported.

Anyone that thinks that illegals are only taking the menial jobs for legal citizens simply isn't paying attention.

Go to any construction job being done by a public agency. Show up while they are working and ask if you can look around. You will see entire crews of guys that don't speak a lick of english.

On the large public projects (over $50K), they pay Prevailing Wage Rates. That is, essentially, union scale and fringe benefits. Trust me, there are lots of illegals working on projects that are intended to provide 'family wage jobs' for the legal taxpayers that are footing the bill for the construction.

As a libertarian, you don't even support minimum wage. But now when you need it to help support your silly argument, you're all aboard minimum wage requirements.

No, I don't support minimum wage. However, when the employer has the leverage of "take $x or I'll report you to immigration," there is coercion involved in the contract. They're also not in a position to sue (or be forced to leave their home and family and friends) if the employer is negligent, etc.

Entering a country "illegally" is just like driving over 55.

You don't have to kill 11M people for it to be on the order of the crime the Nazis committed.

Name another country that would allow 11MM people to cross their border and occupy their territory. It's a hell of a lot more serious than speeding. However, we just disagree about what constitutes a nation state.

As George Lopez jokes, we would need the illegals to build the fence, so it will never get built.

We have the same problem in Israel with immigration from Africa but here it's a bit different cause them not being Jewish arises the usual Paranoia of us not being the majority in the country. My opinion is that people have a right to live wherever they choose and that if the government will do a better job of making them part of our society instead of trying to find legal/moral ways to deport them, they would be less of a problem in issues like crime or walking through the streets drunk.
