Ties career WNBA record for dunks, and gave a post-game interview with a voice deeper than Barry White.

    :dunno:

I don't get the hype. I see ESPN highlights of dudes dunking multiple times in a game almost every single night. Why does this dude get his own thread for this?

I actually sort of watch this one because it was on while I was setting up a BBQ... I was more surprised that there seemed to be a lot of people at WNBA game than anything. I just can't imagine going using my time on Memorial Day to go to a WNBA game. Maybe if I had a daughter or something, it'd be different, but the WNBA is still hard to watch.

The funny thing is that Griner actually got outplayed by Elena Delle Donne, another rookie, that's actually kinda hot for a bball player, and let's be real... any time you get a group with a buncha dudes together, a WNBA game isn't about basketball, it's about whether or not you'd hit it.

It was a pretty nice two hand dunk while hanging on the rim. I was impressed, I guess. It was like Tayshaun Prince with a deeper voice going extra on a dunk.

I've always liked Delle Donne--I was disappointed when she transferred from UConn, but she definitely shined at Delaware. I like that she showed both a solid post game and her range, as well as a defensive presence (as many blocks as Griner), and her team dominated. Could be interesting to see who translates to the league better overall.

Can we drop the "he" or "it" stuff? That's just fucking juvenile. Are you threatened because she's bigger than you and better at basketball? Well, keep your feelings of inadequacy to yourself.

Didn't Elena Delle Donne completely outperform her outside of the dunks?

And Mike Tyson has a really high pitched voice. So what? I wonder how many of you calling Griner he and it would call Mike Tyson she or it to his face. Shit, most of you probably wouldn't have the balls to call Griner he or it to her face. SHE would probably kick your ass.

She didn't completely outperform her. Delle Donna is a good player with a very complete game, but she also plays on a much better team. Here's their key stats:

    Delle Donna: 22 pts, 8 reb, 4 blk on 9-21 shooting in 34:21, EFF = 23
    Griner: 17 pts, 8 reb, 4 blk on 7-11 shooting in 27:25, EFF = 25

Delle Donna scored 5 more points, but she played 7 more minutes. Griner's PT was limited due to foul trouble. Delle Donna shot .429 from the field and missed more shots than Griner attempted. Griner was much more efficient shooting .636 from the field.

Wherever the source of the he/it stuff comes from... I find it to be distasteful and unnecessary.

Switching gears: does anyone really think that she will change perceptions about women's basketball being played below the rim? Dunks are dunks, and more power to her, but she still looks like she's wearing concrete shoes when she put them down.

I'm not threatend, not trying to be juvenille, or have any issues with inadequacy. I just simply have doubts that she is a she. Or if she is a she, she may have once been a he. She looks like a man and talks like a man. She seems to be more man than women. Cut her hair short and I think most people would think she is a he if they met her. I dont think its out of line to have doubts/questions/concerns about it.

Mike Tyson looks and acts like a man. I dont think its a good comparison.

Damn, NOW after 5 years, everybody gets all sensitive? What happened to this place. I guess I'm wrong........ i guess she doesn't talk like a man or looks like a man or dunks the basketball or talks a man. I don't know where I came up with those crazy notions. Must be that I'm, what was it "threatened"? I call it like I see it, sorry. She looks like Austin Daye or Tayshean Prince. If there was a guy who looked and acted like the black guy from Revenge of the Nerds playing in the NBA, I'd call him out to.

    Actually I would.

If he beat me up, I'd take his ass to court for all he has!

    Mike Tyson too.
