Yeah and as the saying goes "Usually the deals that are rumored are the ones that aren't happening". I know there have been rumored deals that panned out, but I would bet more than 80% of them weren't even on the table. My personal opinion though.

I agree that its going to take a really great offer to get Olshey to move LA, its also got me thinking that if the cavs can't find an all-star big for the #1 pick they may make an insane trade to get one. If they think having a really good all-star PF/C will bring them Lebron I can see a ridiculous offer for Love/Lopez/LMA of #1/#19/TT/Waiters. That would be way overpaying but if the end result nets you Lebron they could probably talk themselves into that because I doubt any of those three would be let go unless an offer like I just mentioned appears because all three teams wants to win now and as good as those pieces potentially could be it makes each team worse for at least a year.
Edit- I should say i'm not advcoating that they should do that, I think they should just draft Noel and look to trade 19/Var for a piece that can stay healthy.

thanks for doing that research for me. I was trying to get out my door and went on memory. I also recall Mike and Mike saying part of the reason that LA fares so well vs the Spurs is that they're one of the few teams that doesn't double him

Aldridge was measured 6'10 barefoot at his predraft

You could almost talk me into #1/Waiters/Thompson as a win-win deal. Aldridge and Varejao would be a great inside combo for Irving, and that team would grow into a veteran contending team instantly.

We would go into rebuilding with a backcourt whose upside is rivaled only by Curry/Thompson. We would badly need two more big men, of course. I wonder if Josh Smith could be one.

I have strong doubts that the #1 pick, or Waiters, or Thompson, individually, will ever equal LaMarcus. I am a strong believer in BPA = In the NBA, whoever gets the best player in the deal, wins. That would be LaMarcus, IMO.

Granted there are other factors to consider. Apparently, we'd also end up with surplus cap space, and very likely be a 2014 lottery team. 'If' we saved our cap space for 2014, and got a good 2014 lottery pick, that might put the deal over the top for me, because "imaginarily" speaking, either could equal LaMarcus. If they can also get us another 2014 first rounder, it would be a strategic move I might not be able to pass up.

I'd consider this. That's a lot for Cleveland to give up, though. I'd then do what I could to package the #1 with something for DMC. That's a young team, though, and perhaps you need to make sure you bring in another couple of vets to look over all the young pups (and keep DMC and Waiters focused).

I personally believe LMA is vastly underrated, especially here in Portland, and would HATE to see him go. That being said, if we don't think we can get enough talent around LMA now, there's no point in hanging on to him.

I just have little interest in Thompson or Waiters, personally. I think both are decent players, will likely get better, etc. But I don't see either as being a solid starter on a good team. Waiters seems fit as a 6th man, backup 1/2. I hate the idea of starting him at SG. Thompson is similar to Hickson a bit at PF/C. He can play both for you. So best suited as a first big off the bench type. As a starter, generally with bigs, you have one post option, and one good defender, generically. Thompsn doesn't look like a great post option, getting most his points in a similar fashion to JJ. And doesn't project to be an above average defensive starter at the 4 or 5. So he's best suited, like Waiters, in between positions on the bench. Which is fine. Just not 2 guys I'd select in the top 5, and not 2 I'd choose to have as centerpieces to a deal for LMA. I'd want, along with a pick, at least one player that projects to be more than an above average starter, with a true position.

I agree. Waiters especially doesn't do anything for me.

I will say that if we were picking #1 I would not take Noel.

Anyone remember what kind of protection our 2014 pick has?

I mean, I get it from Cleveland's perspective. They look at it as we're including #1 AND a recent top 5 pick. Sorry, should have picked better for me to be super interested.

I think I've said before, I would do this deal, but I'd insist on 1, 19 Thompson and Zeller. Then I'd draft Oladipo at 1 and hope to grab the other Zeller at 10, then use 19 to move up for Schroeder. Young roster, but high potential.

    Lillard/Schroeder
    Matthews/Oladipo/Barton
    Batum/Claver
    Thompson/C. Zeller/Freeland
    T. Zeller/Leonard

How does Malone's defense, either awful or great, damage my premise, that Aldridge needs to play better defense?

Are you confused again from Mother's Little Helper?

What I'm saying is that you give much praise to hickson; whom was incredibly worse at defense than Aldridge. You speak like Aldridge is some lame defensive player; yet he's one of our best post defenders.

You need to put down the crack pipe!
