But because you followed the scientific method, you would be cast into hellfire.

I always wonder what would go on in the mind of a man that knows he will be judged and cast out? I mean we see people begging not to die, shitting themselves, or crying hysterically. If you died and all the sudden you are ascending to heaven; knowing what your fate is.

I could see myself telling me "if I only took advice and actually listened"

I don't know. Maybe they would tell God off and say its all his fault for being so mysterious. Seems selfish enough for man I guess.

A lot of us would just be descending into hell laughing. The christian god and plan of salvation are so ludicrous if it were true it would actually be comical. Like a farce of logic.

I have a curious question for you, in previous threads you have stated that you believe in biblical literalism yet I notice that you've started posting these message translations. Isn't someone's translation or reinterpretation of the bible taking about from it's literal meaning?

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. John 5:13

Nope. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is simple. Any and all translations steer towards that same simple meaning. I only post these other translations (particularly, The Message) as to bring it into modern day terms. Again, the basic, simple message is the same. In fact, Jesus said we should come to him as little children (ie. full of wonderment, faith, and without a bunch of pre-conceived notions/agendas.)

There's almost nothing in the gospels that you can line up with history. Even some of the basic things such as the geography, and leaders are off. Josephus wrote an extensive history of events leading up to the Jewish war with Rome and it would have been really bizzare for him to omit an act like the slaughter of the innocents, or such a major character as Jesus and the events proported in the gospels.

In fact, the only mention of Jesus in Josephus is a medieval forgery.

We all know "Jesus" attracts the simple and weak minded. That's why children are the best targets.

I thought you were using The Message, even the author admits he's taking a lot of liberties with the bible.

    New International Version
    9. “This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
    10. your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
    11. Give us today our daily bread.
    12. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
    13. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’
    King James Version
    9. After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
    10. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
    11. Give us this day our daily bread.
    12. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
    13. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
    New King James Version
    9. In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven,Hallowed be Your name.
    10. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
    11. Give us this day our daily bread.
    12. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.
    13. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
    New Living Translation
    9. Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
    10. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
    11. Give us today the food we need,
    12. and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
    13. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
    The Message
9-13 With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:
    Our Father in heaven,
    Reveal who you are.
    Set the world right;
Do what's best— as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
    You're in charge!
You can do anything you want!
    You're ablaze in beauty!
    Yes. Yes. Yes.

Although The Message is used commonly in congregations, Peterson stated his uneasiness with this in a Christianity Today interview:
“ When I'm in a congregation where somebody uses [The Message] in the Scripture reading, it makes me a little uneasy. I would never recommend it be used as saying, "Hear the Word of God from The Message." But it surprises me how many do.[4] ”

Personally, I use the NIV. That said, nothing I've ever read in The Message has altered basic Christian tenets. Again, the Gospel is very, very simple to understand and live your life by. I'd encourage you to come to church with me some Sunday! :)

the apologist's argument is that Jesus was NOT a major character at the time, not someone roman historians would be likely to even be aware of, which has some merit.

however you are right about some events mentioned in one or more of the Gospels, particularly stuff like a major earthquake followed by an outbreak of zombies : )

What we have now is likely at least an embellishment of a reference. However it is possible Josephus referenced Jesus, twice in fact.

so are non-repentant gay christians going to heaven or not? should you be telling them they are sinners? if the bible is so simple why are that issue and many others still so contentious?

Because we live in a sinful word in which man wants his/her own way. Narrow is the way that leads to Jesus. Simple, yet narrow.
