people who take their morals from the law of the land amuse me laws come and go, so your morals would change with them? weird
Lol, yes it's against the law. Weed isn't against the law in Washington. Is it okay to smoke it there then? And there is legalized heroin (opiates) like morphine that doctors prescribe. So it's okay to do opium because our government can tax it? LSD was once legal and psychiatrist user to be able to prescribe it. Alcohol was once very illegal. Tht is a bad example. "For we conclude that a person is put right with God only through faith, and not by doing what the laws commands." Romans 3:28
You seem to have the meaning of this quote from Romans confused Mags. I believe it means doing what is right because of your faith makes it right. You do not need a Law (of man) to make it right.
That whole section of Romans which Mags referred to is very interesting in light of today's politics. You do right by faith, you may create laws to make that right in law. You possible could negate a law that violates faith in a civil process. Here in the United States, the Constitution pretty much guides us not to make a law that would violate Christian Faith ( I don't think you can say that in regard to the Muslim religion). I believe several Churches including the Catholic Church bringing suit against Federal government for the ACA for creating law that violates faith, will end up before the Supreme court. I don't see how the Feds can prevail.
You have stated that the Bible says not to drink too much. If the Bible references alcohol, the Bible references drugs. Why do you think he has the meaning confused? I think that's exactly what he thinks it means. One of ABM's many definitions of sin is apparently breaking the laws of man, no matter what the law is. That's what's confusing, and very weird.
good one. But... It does specifically talk about prostitution being a sin in the bible. But I'm not judging.
My Mom uses an old saying, "People are going to do what they want to do." In other words, if it's something we really want to do, we'll find ways to justify and/or make excuses for doing so. Guilty as charged here. That said, I really don't want to make all of this a point of contention between two brothers in Christ. We can, and should, choose to give it up to the Lord and follow Him as He leads. It's Satan that would have (and enjoy) us becoming divisive about it. God wants us to strive for unity in the body of Christ. Amen?
Dang, perhaps the 1% should take heed after all. I just read this and it stirred up a whole new ponderment within me this time: 2 Corinthians 8:11-15
