I think a team would be foolish to offer him an 8 figure contract.

If there aren't a lot of teams willing to lock up a big chunk of their cap on him, the price will go down. It's a huge risk that he'll even play again, IMO.

I agree. With the exception of Dalembert years and years ago, none of those guys have been able to significantly help a decent team be better.

Assuming Bynum is healthy when we sign him, I'd be willing to roll the dice and see if he can stay even moderately healthy while making lots of money as a Blazer.

Bynum makes a contender. I'm firmly in support of us signing him.

Yeah I'm on board, 2 year max deal we can offer with 3rd year team option. Asik or Splitter would probably be my next favorite targets if available but they are no where close to the impact player of a healthy Bynum and we'd have to send Houston an asset or hope the Spurs don't match. With Bynum its basically 50/50 chance he plays, if you win the gamble we have a chance at a title, if not we don't. There isn't any other move that gives us close to a 50/50 shot of being a contender.

Sign the knucklehead Bynum, use the 2.5 mil room exception on another defending big, sign Jermaine Oneal for the vet minimum and get a 3rd PG with our final roster spot.

    Lillard/CJ/FA
    Wesley/Barton/Crabbe
    Batum/Claver
    LaMarcus/Leanord/FA
    Bynum/Oneal/Whitey

I agree with Mags as well, but i wonder if some dumb team with more capspace will offer him more?

If Aldridge is getting traded no matter what, do you still like Mags idea?

Depends on what we can get for him, yes if we can get a guy like Blake.

I wouldn't. If we lose Aldridge; there is no point to take a chance for contention. We absolutely need him to be successful.

I assume that if Aldridge is traded; it's gotta be some kind of grouping of draft picks 2014 and maybe a young star.

That's how I feel too. I like the idea a lot if Aldridge is here this season. If not, then let's go MM style and tank.... errr... shred salary and get younger... and keep Freeland....

I just don't see what team has the ability to give us only too 3 protected 2014 picks? If trading Aldridge is true; we gotta do a serious "tank fest"

IMHO, if LMA is here even until the trade deadline, and we get even a somewhat competent big man (at PF or C), we're going to be good enough to not have a pick at all in next year's draft.

I agree. If Aldridge is gonna get traded; then we should set up the 2013-14 tank fest. Round up as many 2014 picks that you can muster and make damn sure you don't have a winning record

I'd only consider it if the 2nd and 3rd years were team options.

With the Nets crazy trade yesterday, the Knicks need to do something to improve. Tyson Chandler was very ineffective vs Hibbert and was made the scapegoat by many NY fans. If they used the stretch provision on Amare, they could get under the luxury tax to do a sign and trade. It would also give them space to resign JR Smith.

Tyson Chandler and his 14M salary to us
We stretch Freeland or trade him to Philly and it would give us the room to accept him without giving up anything
NY signs Bynum to a deal starting at 11M and how many years it takes.
Philly gets future picks. Not much since we could just sign him outright and trade him at first opportunity
