#Blazers GM Neil Olshey said he will not extend a qualifying offer to Eric Maynor. McCollum's selection makes his return to Port doubtful.

I think we already knew we wouldn't extend him the QO. IIRC, it was something like $3.25MM, which is too much for Maynor's production. He may come back to us on the cheap, however, if we're thinking that McCollum is more of a SG than a shooting PG. That being said, I think he'll get better offers than what we're thinking of paying him.

If he signs with us, it will be for the small exception of around 2million. After we spend our $11million on a real "needle moving" free agent. Maybe.

Lillard's stats really improved once we got Maynor, Maynor can run the point! So after all we went through last year with bums like Nolan Smith and Ronnie Price, we're going to let Maynor walk to save 3 million dollars?

With the addition of cj; I'm not as concerned about maynor. It would be nice to get him back though.

Pretty much this. We couldn't afford to offer up the QO, need to maintain cap space. Now if he wants to come back for peanuts after we're done with our "big" signing (if any) I think we'd welcome him. Or I should say, I would.

    Edit: IOW: What Harry said.

Yeah, I don't think this means we aren't keeping him. It means we want the cap space. There's no reason why Maynor couldn't be back next year.

I don't think we need Maynor anymore with CJ. We need to fill other positions first. If there's leftover money and he's still available then, maybe he comes back. Doubt it though.

You are correct! McCollum is a natural SG but will have to play a lot of PG because we can't keep more than 6 guards.

    SG
    Matthews
    Barton
    Williams
    +Crabbe 6-6 197 lbs

    PG
    Lillard
    +McCollum 6-3 197 lbs
    -Maynor
    -Smith

Either Maynor or Elliot Williams stays, not both.

We won't keep all those SG's. CJ is not a PG. Regardless if it is Maynor or not, we need to sign a back up pG. Hopefully as good as Maynor.

Wes could be our starting SG and our back up SF.

CJ will make the team as will Crabbe. Barton or Williams will fight it out for the remaining spot. Williams is the FA out of all of those so I would guess he won't be back. CJ will be our emergency 3rd string PG , not our 2nd string.

Okay, so you think Maynor stays and Elliot Williams goes.

    SG
    Matthews
    Barton
    -Williams
    +Crabbe 6-6 197 lbs

    PG
    Lillard
    Maynor
    +McCollum 6-3 197 lbs
    -Smith

That still means that McCollum has to spend his rookie year mainly at PG. But, as you say, Matthews could be a half-time SF like Roy was, opening a few SG minutes for McCollum.

This is beyond obvious. Maynor was a solid pickup when we had the worst bench in the league and needed emergency help at trade deadline. Now that it's the summer, we have more options and are already deeper with CJ. I'd be surprised if Maynor got paid more than league minimum by a team this summer. There are much better PGs in free agency.
