Trade Matthews and cap space for a sign and trade for Iggy. New starting line up: Pg: Lillard Sg: Iggy Sf: batum Pf: Aldridge Center: Lopez Key reserves: CJ, Barton, claver, drob, Leonard I can definitely be fine with that!!!!
Iggy is going to CONTINUE to decline over the next 4 years. I'd rather get someone who is younger and better offensively. Don't need Batum Sr. playing with Batum Jr. Need SOME aggression and killer instinct. I like the Granger idea more. And D Rob? David Robinson ain't walkin thru that door
Dammit I meant trob!!!! And the Iggy situation is still good for many reasons. 1.) he is a slasher and distributor 2.) he defends really well 3.) he's very good at setting up big men in the post. The age is a factor; but the advantage is he is also wiser. He's heady and can teach things to our youngsters. Also, when batum is out; we still can have a batum on the court. They can swap playing time at sf too.
I'm not against Iggy, I think he would be a good pickup, but I think he mirrors too much of what Batum does for the team. We need a scorer. We need someone who can pickup the load if Dame and Aldridge are either out of the game or are cold from the floor.
But what I was thinking is batum or Iggy can carry the load on different nights. If one has an off night, the other steps up. It's using odds that at least one of them can score/
I actually liked Gerald Wallace. He was actually really good for us for his time here. And when Wallace came; our shooting wasn't as consistent as it is now. It will work
I still think I like Granger better, if Indy can be convinced to deal him. He's not on a ridiculous contract (13 million), and he only has one year left so if he doesn't work out, we have the cap space.
Problem is that he's not a good outside shooter, so immediately you make things slightly more crowded for Lillard to operate. Giving him 4/48 or whatever seems like way too much money to tie up. Especially with the rel possiblity that LMA can leave in 2 years, giving us a 32 year old severely declining AI making 13 million dollars in 3 years.
He's redundant. George is a small forward. They need a shooting guard, and Matthews would fit in nicely with their concept of hard-nosed defense. The trade makes sense for both teams. We can slide Batum to shooting guard and let Granger bomb away when they double Aldridge and Dame.
I'm not as opposed to getting granger either btw. If we get either, I think this offseason would be a home run.
Iggy is a better player than Matthews in many, but not all respects. He's a better passer and a better athlete, and a better defender. BUT: Matthews is cheaper. Probably half the price or less. Matthews is younger (by nearly 3 years). Matthews has been with the team for a while (which counts for something). Matthews is much more fiery. Matthews is a better, more frequent, clutcher three point shooter. Matthews is a much better FT shooter. I really think this offseason should have knocked a good deal off Iggy's price. He was pretty much invisible in their meek dismissal.
I don't see why we can just move Batum to SG, but they can't do the same with George? Especially since they did that previously, when Granger was healthy.
That's what I think we need. At least one home run. We need a legit third option. We don't have one right now. Granger was one of the top scorers in the league for a while. I don't see why he couldn't get his game back, albeit not the 25ppg he was putting up in 2008-2009.
Granger is Brandon Roy II. He dropped in the draft because of red flags about injuries and now his body is breaking down.
He's a free agent after next season. Matthews is locked in for another year beyond that, and he's half the cost. I think Wes would fit in beautifully in Indiana. I just think it makes sense for them. George is the new star of the team. I don't know.... like I said.... I would inquire about cost and see if Indy is interested in moving him.
Or we can let Wes and Batum bomb away when they double LMA and Dame. Granger can't stay healthy. I do think the Iggy idea is decent. A better ball handler and defender is a nice compliment to Dame and CJ in the back court. Those two with Batum and LMA would be pretty damn good. Even if he can't shoot, the other three can.
I think McCollum will be that instant offense scorer off the bench that can come in and put up a lot of points in a hurry. I'd love to see him embrace a Vinnie Johnson/Manu Ginobili type role where his job is to come in and score, score, score. Hell, Nate Robinson is nobody's idea of a great staring PG, but with Derrick Rose out there were times, both during the regular season and playoffs where Nate's ability to score in bunches completely carried that Chicago team to victory. I'm not thrilled with relying on a rookie in that role (until he proves he is capable of scoring at the NBA level), but I'm fine with starting Wes at the 2 (he plays good defense and can knock down the open 3) with C.J. playing the 3rd guard/6th man role. If Crabbe is as good as advertized, maybe he can eventually make Wes expendable, but not for an over-the-hill, over-priced, rapidly declining Iggy-type player. BNM
Well, like I said when I first suggested the Iggy sign-and-trade in another thread, I'm in favor of that deal too if it can get done for Matthews/Freeland/cap space. Not sure if Denver will bite.
