I think it was more of having the equivalent of full mle.

Indiana's going to pay Chris Copeland $6.1 mill over the next two years? WTF?

...How? The moment you absorb their contracts, they hit your capspace.

You have to waive the MLE to create cap space. So technically, if we traded JJ for 9.5(unlikely, but go with it), then we can trade part of the TPE for RObin, and part for Robinson. Because we used bird rights with JJ, instead of cap space, we'd technically have never waived the MLE.

Only under the cap if we renounce all cap holds. Since moratorium has not ended, nothing has yet technically been renounced. Maynor and JJ's cap holds are sufficient to keep us above the cap, allowing us use of MLE, if we worked everything properly.

I don't see the point in that though. Assuming we waive the MLE, we're set to have about $3.5 million under the cap + $2.6 million room exception. That added up just about equals the MLE anyways. Assuming you're going after a SF and a PG...it won't really make a difference.

Also, pretty sure Dell Demps structured the NO deal in a way that it would fit under the 150% rule. If you split the deal I'm not sure it would still work that way and NO wouldn't do it. Not to mention Portland is sending things to both Sacramento and New Orleans. It would be a complicated mess that I'm sure the teams don't want to deal with.

Don't know if anyone else has posted this yet, with all the Dwight Howard b.s., but the 76er's acquired Royce White earlier tonight -

Still rooting for the guy... can't imagine the fans in Philly will cut him much slack with his anxiety disorder though...

no. You'd use the TPE to acquire Lopez.

Thinking it through, however, I don't think it's actually feasible. Say we created a TPE by S&T JJ to GS for the amount to cover Robin, that's a say 6 million TPE. Combined with our 5 million dollar MLE, that's right about where we were with our cap space. But, we don't have Robinson. And no real way to create another TPE to grab him.

Yes, it would only work if GSW wanted to pay Hickson enough to generate a large enough TPE for us to use it to bring in both Lopez and Robinson (which, unfortunately, would be about 9.5M because of the trade kicker). If, somehow, Hickson gets an offer like that, then and only then would my crazy idea be possible.

So apparently one of the main reasons Dwight apparently left LA was because he didn't want to be Kobe's sidekick (via Sportscenter). I wonder if he means a "sidekick" in terms of perception or possessions. If he means a sidekick in terms of possessions and his role on the team, then I don't know what role he expects to play with Harden out there, who jacked up 17+ field goals per game last season. Not to mention, if he had stayed in LA, he would have been the Lakers' go-to offensive threat until Kobe recovered from his ACL surgery.

He probably means perception. He's no one's sidekick now.

Has a major free agent ever left LA before? I can't remember anything like this ever happening in the past.

If they pull that off, then I have to say I'm kind of liking New Orleans' new look ... That's plenty of front-court talent, a good backcourt with Holiday and Gordon (with Tyreke as a super-sub sixth man) and Aminu is no great shakes at the three spot, but passable.

    I'm not sure that's a sure-fire winner, but it's a start.
