Lets just say I went through stages of Grief when he left RHCP and I have all his solo stuff. He performed "Untitled #3" at their Portland Show about 6 years ago and I lost it!

Oh and I could listen to "Murderers" on To Record Only Water, on repeat for days, and be happy :)

Sounds vaguely familiar. You were a very minor poster, or I'd remember the name clearly. You must have posted about twice a month.

I think that's enough. They're here, we've all said hi, now let's talk about basketball.

The last camera I understood was an Instamatic. In 2 years I've taken one picture, using my phone. It was of my foot when it got swollen. You into feet? That's all I got.

Actually I can probably sell it and become a porn star. Forget it. You PAY for my pictures.

I would have killed to have been there for that show... I just saw them last year, with Klinghoffer, and it was underwhelming, to say the least.

I'm a RHCP diehard fan, but Frusciante really was their heart and soul. I love their early stuff, but I also think that Californication and By The Way are their best albums. Stadium Arcadium just felt like less and less Frusciante to me. It was overproduced, and Kiedis was highlighted too prominently. Honestly, Kiedis is a great frontman, but he was in his best in the 80's and early 90's as a hype-man style rap-rocker. At least on Californication and By The Way, his vocals were overly modulated, so they were tolerable.

At the end of the day though, John Frusciante was the genius of the Chili Peppers. Flea's amazing, and Chad Smith is a great drummer, but without Frusciante, they're just another band. I wish more people would acknowledge that.

In fact, even in the early days, "Knock Me Down" is one of the best tracks, if not the best, on Mothers Milk, because the technicians "accidentally" mixed Frusciante's vocals over Kiedis's. They really could have survived from that point on as a three person band.

As far as his solo stuff goes, I love all of it... well, except for the latest shit that he put out... PBX Funicular Intaglio Zone. Honestly, it sounds like he's using again. It's very reminiscent of his earlier solo albums when he was using, except instead of just playing rock from his heart like he did on Niandra, he's trying to do something he's not familiar with... something that he could probably master if sober, but really, only someone who's slipped back into his vices can think that PBX sounded good enough to release...

As messed up as he was during the recordings of Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt and Smile From The Streets You Hold though, there's so much beauty in the chaos of those records. Not only are half the "Untitled" tracks amazing songs that could have been hits, had he been in the right state of mind, as well as some tracks on Smile, like "Poppy Man," that are great non-vocal tracks, but if the average listener could place themselves in a mindset to appreciate his music at that state in his life, tracks like "The Other" are incredible.

Anyway, yeah, long story short... own all the guy's records, hard copy, as well as RHCP... big fan... never been able to see him live though.

    BTW -

There's some guy on YouTube that makes really awesome Chilis videos for their non-single tracks.

This one's a B-Side, "Someone," which is pretty much all Frusciante... his vocals are modulated in the verse, but he kills it in the chorus (essentially, it gets good about two minutes in and sounds like a Chilis single)... thought this was worth sharing... can't believe it never even made an album...

BTW - Mamba is also a fan of Frusciante/RHCP...

I remember jlprk, Haak, and Ichidaman from ESPN WAAAAAY back, who all left because of the mods. Even though I only posted sporatically, I always enjoyed reading the RCD trade threads (hundereds and hundereds of threads) and the 503/DomDom threads arguing with the other sensible posters........ah, good times.
