Our roster right now has these players and where they drafted....

    Lillard #6
    CJ #10
    Leonard #11
    Aldridge #2
    T Rob #5
    R. Lopez #15

All but 2 were actual draft picks earned by the Blazers. The rest were traded for.

Try the same analysis with the San Antonio Spurs.

Only Tim Duncan was a top 15 pick

They also have a great way of scouting and developing players to work within their system. I would like to see the same results with our team. And we might in a few years.

Yep they have arguably the best scouting in the NBA. How many times we see no names come out of no where and become great? They definitely know what they are doing!

I was impressed with Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green while watching them play in the playoffs. The future looks bright in Spurs land!

Try this same analysis with the 2-time defending Champion Miami Heat. ;)

Bringing up the Spurs in a comparison sort of way is idiotic

They were blessed that the year they tanked, they drafted one of the all time best players in the history of the NBA, and who hasn't been injured. Take him off that team, and they suck....even with Parker and Ginobili

Then why talk about obtaining picks? Miami didn't need to.

Trader Bob was a big believer in getting players who were high lottery picks. The reason he was able to get them is because he accepted players who had a certain type of wart that our "culture-conscious" regime would not allow.

Yes, they have a great player. Most successful teams winning titles tend to have that characteristic about them.

Do you have comparison suggestions, MM?

Perhaps some people need examples of other teams. I'm guessing MM would like examples without hall of famers.

1998-99 Blazers? None of the players on that team had "hall of famers" and they made it to the WCF. Memphis is another example too.

I'm not looking for examples. This is a message to those that say we must rebuild by obtaining first round draft picks. I am merely pointing out we are. Others started posting the other examples. I love this team and where it's going. I don't think Aldridge will be moved and will extend in PDX.

Yes, we are rebuilding with first round draft picks and you seem enthusiastic. Meaning you think there's success in that particular model. Hence, the reason I brought up San Antonio.

LA is going to eat up a huge chunk of the cap when he re-signs.

Well he was a 15 mil player and we got a pretty damn good team now (4 mil free, btw). Adding 2-3 mil to a max offer isn't so bad.

He'll be earning near $16M in the last year of his contract (2014-15 season).

And the current salary cap is set at $58.5M.
