Re: Zimmerman Case - Lightening Rod Jump on me and start beating me, and if I had a gun, I'd shoot you too once you grabbed for it.
Re: Zimmerman Case - Lightening Rod I, for one, would stop when you had minor lacerations.....possibly a broken nose.
Re: Zimmerman Case - Lightening Rod The case wasn't about race. It was about the reasonableness of the stand your ground law. I have no issue with people defending themselves. If someone breaks into your house or is robbing your place of work. But if you go chase someone down, and end up shooting them, there is no self defense involved. It's stalking that person.
Re: Zimmerman Case - Lightening Rod It wasn't a crime. It was a tragedy. There are no winners here. Not George Zimmerman. Not the Martin family. No one. It's just a sad situation.
Re: Zimmerman Case - Lightening Rod Who threw the first punch? It would be tough to charge Trayvon Martin, however.
Re: Zimmerman Case - Lightening Rod I'm waiting for someone to bring up how Zimmerman had Trayvon Martin pinned on the ground, with his gun out. (Zimmerman himself SAID THIS HAPPENED) before the tables turned..
Re: Zimmerman Case - Lightening Rod NY GIANTS WR SENDS THREATENING TWEET: 'ZIMMERMAN DOESN'T LAST A YEAR BEFORE THE HOOD CATCHES UP TO HIM'
Re: Zimmerman Case - Lightening Rod How can anyone have such strong opinions and be so assured of their side when so much is unknown?
Re: Zimmerman Case - Lightening Rod I'd say that it would be reasonable for Trayvon to "stand" his ground if you have a guy with a gun chasing after you. Or even, without a gun. Telling you to stop, not to break into houses, etc.
Re: Zimmerman Case - Lightening Rod Was that what the prosecution argued? Has anyone made that argument? Law isn't something you pull out of your lower intestine.
Re: Zimmerman Case - Lightening Rod ZIMMERMAN: I was on top of him, straddling him, he was face down, when he kept hitting me in the face it felt like something was in his hands, so I thought he had a weapon, so I grabbed his hands and pushed them away from his body, and I said, "STOP! Don't move." He was saying something like "ahhhh ahhhhh and cursing" and I said, "STOP, don't move" and then somebody came and had a flashlight and I thought was a cop and I said - oh and I still had my gun in my hand as I was holding his hands apart and I said are you a cop he said "no" but I'll call them. I said, "I don't need you to do that I need you to help me restrain this guy."
Re: Zimmerman Case - Lightening Rod Just stating that, if they were both still alive, I don't think "whoever" through the first punch would be acceptable in this case due to stand your ground. He could easily feel his life was in danger (BY A GUN) and punch him - in self defense - and it wouldn't be assault. Or they could ignore stand your ground. We don't know.
