Exactly. It's the "shiny object" strategy. By any means, distract people from the real news. The media is constantly going for the lowest common denominator. We get the media we deserve, I suppose.
Without scanning much of the thread, I just wrote a long post essentially saying what you summed up in a few sentences, so I figured I'd delete my original posts and reaffirm this yours. +1
obama is a genius, i cant believe he invented this tactic i foresee this revolutionizing the political process for the rest of time
Black men robbing someone and killing them? Shocking. I make that offensive joke for a point. Honest question. Is it more news when a white person robs and kills a black person, or a black person robs and kills a white person?
You can't use this tactic without a willing press. If George W. Bush had the same issues in his administration, do you think the press would decline to cover them to the extent they have done so here? As I said before, we get the press we deserve. If people really were hungry for information, if they really did care, they would seek out these stories from other sources. Instead, they just decide to be spoon fed their news through the major media outlets.
Wow, using something offensive tactically to start an actual discussion instead of just to set people off. God job. You get a cookie. Seriously, on the house.
MM, they can not admit the obvious. The whole house of bullshit cards would tumble down, revealing so many "facts" to be fiction
Yep. People don't want to be challenged, so they go to a news program with which they agree. FOX sticks out like a sore thumb because they seem to be the only ones challenging the status quo. We're a 50/50 country, and everyone else competes on the left side of the spectrum, leaving FOX with the rest. What I would love to see is something akin to NPR, but from a libertarian perspective. Thoughtful, thorough, intellectual but not bombastic. I know I'll never see it.
npr is so depressing, i dont want to hear about sudanese machete torture before ive had my coffee in the morning
What's even more depressing is the way they tie themselves into intellectual Gordian knots to keep from saying anything negative about people on the left. There used to be at least a shred of honesty in that place, but now it's filled with Jonestowners looking for their Flavor Aid.
