If Travis Outlaw is a poor man's Jamaal Crawford, Will Barton is a blind leper beggar's Travis Outlaw.

I think Will will have a higher BBall IQ than Outlaw. Will may still look out of control sometimes but not like Outlaw did.

IMO he will be lucky to stay with the team, I think Crabbe beats him out as the season progresses and Will for the most part rides the pine

I rewatched the first LVSL game and one of the plays was really emblematic of his problems:

He was driving toward the basket from the side and it knocked him off balance, a non-shooting foul was called. If he was stronger he would easily have gotten a shot off and gotten to the line. If he was very strong he might have actually made the basket. He was 0-12 before garbage time and missed a lot of makeable shots. My feeling is that if he was stronger he would be less affected by the defense and he would make more.

The guy needs to add muscle pretty much everywhere the eye can see.

If he didn't have a guaranteed contract I would consider cutting him. I don't see how he will ever be a rotational NBA player. With such a horrific jumpshot, and playing SG, he needs to be amazing in other aspects of the game to play at the level of a replacement player. Barton has a long way to go to hit that minimum competency level and he doesn't have too much upside. Maybe a team that needs to add salary to get to the minimum cap like Atlanta would take him off our hands for free.

I was really hoping he would develop into a Stacy Augman type. He could get there someday. Augman had a horrible jump shot throughout his career, but his defense and running the break was what made him special.

Yeah, Barton made me think of Augmon too when we got him. The difference is, Augmon is smart.

When a game devolves into straight up rat ball, Barton is an All Star. Hopefully we don't have too many of those games, unless we are the team that's ahead by 20 in the 4th, of course.

If there were some way to bring Barton in when an opposing wing is torching us and tell him to go all spider man on defense, and to pass, not dominate the ball, on offense, that would be cool. But seemingly impossible.

He's not a very skilled player. He's not a very physically strong player. He's not a very young player.

All of those things add up to him not being a very good prospect.
