Steam is having their annual summer sale. I haven't bought a computer game in ages but I recently installed a new video card and thought it might be fun to play something. What do you think about the fallowing games. Fun? Hard? I'm thinking about buying 2 or 3 of them since they're so cheap. Fallout I, II, III and New Vegas - I & II come in a combo pack. 3 and New Vegas by themselves. If I just got New Vegas would I understand the series? Grand Theft Auto 3, GTA Escape from Liberty City, GTA Vice City Civ 4 Assassin's Creed II Bioshock I and II and any others you recommend? I liked Half Life 1 and 2. Thought Portal was dumb. Never finished it. And for a full geek confession I was at one time ranked a top 20 player in the world in Rise of Nations and was the a Top 5 ranked player in the world in both Red Alert and Red Alert 2. Loved the old Doom, Doom 2, Doom 3, and the Quakes. Doom was the reason I first learned how to network computers so 4 of us could play against each other, lol. Anyway, what's good out there.
I still love the command and conquers. If they get a new one soon we should buy it and play sly. Do you play counterstrike?
Wasn't counterstrike in beta or free for a long time? I think I did way back when it first came out. The C&C's were great! Let me know if they come out with a new one and we'll play.
Help me out here, and I'm being genuine. As much time as some of us spend on this board, how is it that 'regular' posters have time to play video games, too? I'll acknowledge I spend way too much time here, but I haven't played a video game outside of Rock Band II with my kids in years. If this is 'semi-reality', what is spending hours gaming?
Good question. Maybe that's why I haven't bought a new game in ages. Stream just has a bunch of them on sale for under $5 so I thought it would be fun to get a couple, crank up the video card settings to max and play for a hour or two.
That makes sense. About 9 years ago, I started to think I was just wasting time if I played a video game. Then again, although this is interactive at S2, it's a waste of time, too, yet I'm as guilty as anyone of wasting my time here. Somebody should do a research study about it.
I played games a lot more growing up, but I barely play anymore because of time. I'd imagine my time here would dwindle if I got a ps4. Even when I do play, it's mostly only madden or nba2k online.
That's a good point, ABM. People need time to just escape. Better here than spending time with strippers or a mistress.
Buy every single game you mentioned! Mod the fuck out of Fallout 3 and NV! Buy the Walking Dead game if you liked the show, it's almost like an interactive mini-series! Add me on Steam! http://steamcommunity.com/id/santeesioux
I only played sports' games. I don't understand the Wow/RPG thing, although I suppose it can be fun if you're networking with other people. I lack the ability to be able to be "Gwarf of the Forest", but I don't judge those that do.
Oh and I forgot the main reason I'm going this, the gf is out of town so I can crank the surround sound set up on my computer which I don't get much when she is around, lol. Anyone around here have any marijuana. (No Mags, I said pot, not mushrooms.)
I live in Southern Oregon and i'm not a redneck or avid outdoorsman, what else am i going to do with my time?
LOL! I'm not buying every game I mentioned. I'm asking for recommendations from the ones I listed. Walking Dead sounds great. Normally games made after TV shows or movies suck. Fallout 3 or NV? Any of the others I listed any good?
I don't judge, Klamath Basin guy. I love Lake of the Woods ... for two weeks a summer and Thanksgiving (if there is snow). Then I like to go back to the distractions of a city.
Both Fallout games are really good, but they're pretty similar, if you have to get one i'd get NV, but you can't go wrong with either. Definitely Walking Dead, the one on sale right now, not the shitty first person shooter. If you haven't played it, Civ 5 is pretty good, but you'll probably need to pick up the expansions to make it better. GTA San Andreas is really good, but i haven't played it in years, so i can't say how it's aged. The Total War games are really fun for strategy games too, but i don't know if they'll go on sale again since today is the last day.
The Walking Dead that is $6.24? There is Civ V for $7.49 and Civ V Gold edition which seems to include a bunch of packs for $12. Which one Total War game do you like the best?
This one for sure http://store.steampowered.com/app/207610/ The Gold edition adds a lot of shit, get that one for sure over the base game. As for Total War games http://store.steampowered.com/app/201270/ I like that one the best, but there are so many in different time periods you can't go too wrong.
