I don't follow the Yankees much, and very little of their farm system. But the Mariners are in a position where Mike Morse, Kendry Morales and Raul Ibanez are very much trade bait for someone's stretch run. I know you have a history with Raul, but are NYY in a position to be buyers this year?

And if so, what tier of prospects (potentially) do you think the M's could get back for one of those 3?

We would love to have Morales but why trade for him when we can just sign him as a FA at the end of the season?

The ops question is trade for rent for 2013. I suppose the buyer/seller jury is still out. I think Yanks will be sellers this year, for the first time in a long time.

I don't think they can afford to be sellers as much as I would like to see it. To many jobs on the line, to much in TV revenues (Yes), and they can't sell a rebuild because that would take the hype of a few prospects which every Yankee fan knows is at least 2 years away from any major impact.

Is it just me, or is this not one of the most quite trade line periods in a long time. How about you all, I mean with the exception of the Cubs and their dump, and the recent trades of Garza and Rodriguez, there is nothing moving, not even wild speculations. I guess PEDS have taken all the news!

This is kind of where I was going...especially with another OF going down, I thought Ibanez might be a really good fit, but what would NYY give up for him? Morales is a decent piece going forward, and since you're the Yankees you probably don't mind tendering a 14M qualifying offer at the end of the year, but I'm not sure the M's won't move him for a couple of decent prospects.

What I would do is different than what the Yankees would do... I would just take the lumps this year without adding anyone... what the Yankees will do... looks like they are going to get Soriano... so I don't see another OF in addition to Soriano being added...

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have him now but do you really think we're going anywhere even with him? This team just has to many holes to fill this year that's going to make a difference.

If we were just a player or two away I'd be as gung-ho as all hell. But we need a 3rd baseman, a catcher, a DH, a bench, a solid proven starting pitcher. A back up 1st baseman before Overbay collapses from lack of rest and a left fielder. It's hard to be optimistic when you need so much.

...I think they can get by with Stewy...he makes contact at the plate and has been very good defensively. As a platoon DH, Soriano would help. I think they can also get by at LF. ...2B?...yeah, they could definitely use some help, but until ARod is officially gone I doubt they make a big splash replacing him.
