just found this so don't know if it has been posted yet.

I was told this morning by a reliable source that the Cubs are waiting for the word to take down Alfonso Soriano’s photo (which is apparently bolted to the wall) in the press room at Wrigley.

I was told this morning by a reliable source that the Cubs are waiting for the word to take down Alfonso Soriano’s photo (which is apparently bolted to the wall) in the press room at Wrigley. Given all the chatter about a possible deal that would send Soriano to the Yankees, it seems like a deal is in the works and could happen as soon as today.

rumors2Of course, Soriano has both full no-trade clause and 10-5 rights, so he would have to approve his departure from the Cubs. Given that the left-fielder reportedly nixed a deal that would have sent him to the eventual World Series Champion San Francisco Giants in 2012, an aging Soriano may be more willing to leave the Cubs for a contender in 2013. In fact, Gordon Wittenmeyer of the Sun-Times tweeted that the Cubs have already been in touch with Soriano’s agent to inform him of the Yankees’ interest in the outfielder. According to the Chicago Tribune’s Paul Sullivan, Soriano says he’s willing to think about waiving his NTC for the Yankees.

Soriano not in Cubs lineup tonight. My guess is traded but to Yanks or someone else?

Anyone else read that the yankees backup plan to Soriano was Alex Rios? Kinda should have been the reverse if they serioulsy wanted to improve the team. As i mentioned, Soriano is simply a move to make a move, and to satisfy some dumb yankee fans who don't understand why rebuilding is a far better solution to stagnation.

Rios has been pretty bad for about the last month and Soriano has been pretty good. Rios is younger which I like but did just read that the Rangers are now talking to White Sox regarding trade involving Rios.

If anything, being bad thelast month should decrease his value. Doesnt change that he is a better player who brings far more at this point than Soriano will. Soriano is simply cheaper, which feeds into yet again how ridiculous this move really is. If they REALLY wanted to compete and improve the team for 2013, you would go after the younger, better player, not the cheaper one.

Why can't people see that this is to broken to fix. So lets say Soriano comes and hits 20 Hr's in 60 remaining games and we squeeze out the last playoff spot. We immediately lose the playoff. We are never going to sniff the World Series now or next year when all our old guys are another year older and no youth to infuse into the lineup.

Neither one are the the perfect move but there are no 24 year old outfielders out there on the trade market who are hitting 300 and have 20 home runs and are under team control for 5 more years. I guess I don't know what people expect. Fans will be pissed if the deadline goes by and the Yanks make no moves and if they make a move to at least try and help band aid or not they are pissed at that. You just can't win if you are a Yankee fan.

...yup, and I don't understand how acquiring Soriano is just a move to satisfy dumb Yankee fans, but acquiring a 32 year old Rios could somehow be considered rebuilding.

I never said Rios would be rebuilding. BUt if they are going to buy, they should buy the better guy. Rios is 32, not 37, and signed through 2014 just like Soriano. He has power and speed, hits for a better average and has a better OBP. He is also a far better defender.
The dumb fans dont get that getting soriano is a move just for them. The ones who refuse to accept rebuilding and insist they do SOMETHING NOW. So the yankees will go and get some aging declining player with a name....again, as long as its on the cheap to satisfy them and allow them to throw their hands up and say "hey we tried".
Soriano is not going to improve this team enough to make a difference. In fact neither would Rios, which is why they should be selling and rebuilding instead of making foolish moves just for the sake of it. But if they geniunly wanted to make a move, the move would be for the better player who could help not just this year but next as well, or they would see the ridiculous amount of flaws on this team and start building for the future instead of pretending to "go for it" in 2013.

I would not be pissed if the yankees did not buy any players. I would be thrilled if they sold some. The "dumb" fans are the ones that will be pissed if this broken team doesnt add somone like Soriano to come here and suck. Soriano is not a band aid he is an appeaser to a spoiled fan base.

...right, you have no details on the Soriano deal nor what a Rios deal would have been, but you still find a way to bash anything the Yanx do, or might do, whether it has actually happened yet or not ...anything.

...and "dumb fans"?...please just stop. Who do you think you are to decide what kind of fans anyone is?

...I suppose you also think that the Yanx should not even try to win the division or make it to the PS, and simply throw in the towel on this year?

It's amazing people haven't figured out the Yankees are a big money business and will never conceed a season or home dates.

Sorry but any fan pining for the Yankees to add more aging and useless players is exactly that. Dumb. Dumb and spoiled. Do folks realize what an unbelievably lost year this will be if the Yankees happen to have a win total in the 80s, finish 3 rd or 4th and do almost nothing in the way of infusing youth into this team? Almost no advancements have been made with the farm. The few guys given legit shots have been awful. The rest are blocked by the likes of wells, hafner and company. Of you are going to have a down year at least you would like to see a few kids come up and play like the belong somewhat. This team is just stagnant. It's not throwing on the towel. It's recognizing the situation and being smart about it. Like adding soriano is going to make CC stop pitching like shit and Andy from aging? Folks really think Soriano is going to walk in here and save the season? Really?

So it is my understanding Soriano has another year on contract, his expires after the 2014 season. So if I am not wrong, If this trade goes through we have Soriano and Suzuki committed in the outfield for 2014 also right?

Just figure out what 24 year old stars you want from around the league. I'm sure those teams will be happy to take the Yankees waste and bloated contracts off their hands in exchange for those players.

...no, not necessarily. He'd more likely be a platoon DH with occasional time in the OF.
