I wasn't aware being an abstemious monk was a requirement of rehab.

He is unlikely the same player he could have been at 21, but you can't teach size or strength, which he has in bunches. It's a shame he didn't feel a bit more loyalty to a franchise and a fan base that put so much hope, energy and support into him. But after reading many of these posts, I am coming around to the idea that if I were him, I wouldn't want to be in Portland either.

Saying drinking caused all his injuries is ridiculous. Thousands of injured elite athletes are extremely heavy drinkers and make full recoveries all the time. Allen Iverson was an alcoholic with very few injuries until his 30's.

Drinking can make you fat and lazy and slow and overwieght, it can dull your performance, but it doesn't cause bones to blow up or chip apart. Especially for people in their 20's.

I'm sure there were parts of Odens rehab that could have been better, just like Bill Waltons diet could have been better, or Yao Mings offseason workload could have been managed better. Basketball is an intense impact sport and 7 footers have a very high risk of significant injuries, just the nature of the game.

I love the Onion, and I get the humor, but it just bugs me that they have him lying down clutching his knee as the logo. That's like using Jordan lying on the floor after breaking his leg as the Air Jordan Logo. It would have been better to have him just succeeding in walking or with ludicrously bulky leg silhouettes.

    Yes, I'm that nitpicky.

Oden is best known for being chronically injured. That's part of the joke.

    So who did Oden "choose"?

You're assuming that the logo is clutching his knee in pain, but isn't it possible that he is rehabbing the knee post-injury? I could see that pose being an important part of regaining range of motion.

I don't think Miami is a very good place for Oden.

I hear ya, it's kind of tasteless. Yet I wouldn't have a problem with a logo of Kobe grabbing his injured Achilles.

Thing is though, if that were real, and I injured my knee, I would totally want a Nike Oden Knee Brace. The mock-up in their picture looks pretty sweet, too.

You know, they really should have worked in some kind of penis support bracket too.

It's tough for me to think back to the Houston game where GO fractured his patella. The silence of the Rose Garden and the look on his face and the faces of our teammates still haunts me. Heartbreaking.

For that reason alone, I wish him nothing but the best. It would suck to go through life being thought of as a punch line, as being a "shoulda, woulda, coulda".

He wanted to be out there playing - just as long as it wasn't for the team that drafted him.

It really does suck that he never felt at home here. I can remember living in the Midwest and feeling as if it were alien to me, so I can certainly understand the reverse, except, Portland is awesome and Indianapolis and Columbus are really fucking boring.
