I think you might interchange Grandy and Sori but that's pretty much how I see the lineup. This team is certainly capable to rattling off a few streaks if they get the good CC, Pettitte and Hughes. Decent amount of ifs but this team has the potential right now.
I still think we will end up with Young through the waiver wire. Currently, given the money and our waiver claiming position, if Phillie puts him on waivers we are in a good position.
As long as we're dreaming why not Trout and Kershaw? McCann was never realistic, for any team, that's why he's still a Brave.
The Braves are rolling, one of the best teams in the game, and McCann is a big part of that, you think they were going to trade him? how was that going to work out in the clubhouse? and for who? Hughes? It was a dream, a good one, but not realistic.
I agree with your premise of batting Jeter 2nd Hammer though upon further review I would bat Gardner 1 and Ichiro 9. Same average and while I'd like to see Gardner's OBP a little higher it's currently 30 points highers than Ichiro's.
Oh Rusty I didn't really expect the Yankees to get him by the trade dead line BUT....come seasons end they better make a serious push for him. 5 years top!
Many did really expect to get him in a trade and are killing them for not, it's typical nonsense. I think it's possible they look to sign him, but the competition will be great, he's one of the best in the game, and NY has some young catchers, so I think he will not be a Yankee.
I think many had expectations that a move would be made and what you're seeing is a lot of frustration as a result. Could McCann have been had? Hard to tell but I sure do hope that Cashman did more then send a feeler out. It wasn't so far fetched after Hudson went down and knowing they have mentioned bullpen help as well. A move could have been made elsewhere as well (Young or Ruiz?). Point is the team sent out some mixed signals by bringing Soriano in. I was all set and ready to see the team be buyers OR sellers. Bringing Soriano in told me that they're going for it. You can't expect me to believe that Soriano is your big move to make a push can you? It's really hard to tell what this front office is doing anymore.
There was one thing we knew about George. he was decisive. If there was a need, right or wrong, there was an attempt to fill it, not put a bandaid on it.
It's not hard to tell, Atlanta said McCann was not available, and it made no sense for them to move him no matter how fans try to rationalize it with the other C on the roster, McCann is the starter on a playoff bound team, he was not being moved for anyone. Also it was reported this morning that Young and Ruiz were also not available, the Yankees called and were told no without an offer. Soriano was the best that could be had, and unless anyone can show me the team acquiring good players that NY could have used, I'll consider this not a problem with the Yankees FO, just a bad trade market.
Blaming it on the market is too easy. You can't tell me Young was not available when he was asked to waive his NTC and eventually accepted the Yanks. When you're the GM you might have to go out and make offers and counter, bring the market to you, be aggressive. This is a roster than needs another body and 3B and C. Hard to expect them to find both but make a real run at one. Don't give me a press conference of excuses.
I think Ruben Amaro may have listened to a great offer, but what are you giving for Young/Ruiz? both FA and not that great... top prospects?
Top prospects? I didn't think we had any Not my job but we have chips and Young shouldn't take much. I don't know what the Phils are thinking - do they think they're in the hunt? They've been terrible. The chips I speak of, and I'm not saying we offer any specific or all of them, are Hughes, Joba, Logan, Romine, Wells (don't laugh - you can give him up and put the Phils or others on the books for pennies), Mustellier, Heathcot, Murphy (though I might hesitate there). There are others and the list of untouchables is minuscule right now.
I'll add that the Phils are 9.5 back in the wild card behind a handful of solid teams. With a home stand against the Braves this weekend they could realistically find themselves 11+ games out by the end of the weekend. I'd imagine at some point some of their players might hit the waiver wire.
