Can't believe I am writing this. http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/yank...I?utm_medium=rss&utm_content= Yankees Alex Rodriguez might make his Yankees debut tomorrow night, after all. Major League Baseball will announce its Biogenesis suspensions Monday, at about noon Eastern time, and with no apparent negotiations occurring as tonight’s 6 o’clock deadline approaching, Bud Selig is poised to suspend A-Rod through the end of next season -- a total of 215 games. The commissioner is leaning toward utilizing the Joint Drug Agreement to ban A-Rod, and through those rules, A-Rod could keep playing for the Yankees as he awaits his appeal. The JDA calls for a player’s appeal to be heard within 20 days of the suspension, and then for the arbitrator (Fredric Horowitz, in this instance) to render his decision within 25 days after the appeal hearing’s first day. While Selig is wary of the circus atmosphere that A-Rod’s arrival with the Yankees would create -- Rodriguez finished an injury rehabilitation assignment Saturday night with Double-A Trenton -- he also doesn’t want to give Rodriguez the sympathy points that would come with keeping the 38-year-old off the field via the “best interests of baseball” clause of the Basic Agreement, a person close to the situation said. Already, there seems to have been some backlash generated toward Selig in his battle with A-Rod. Of the other Biogenesis suspects, it appears that at most one player will appeal; The Post reported earlier this week that Texas’ Nelson Cruz was wavering. Earlier today, A-Rod worked out at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton before departing. He said repeatedly this weekend that he intended to meet his teammates in Chicago, and it’s looking like he could live up to those words.
I'm thinking more and more that MLB does not have as much on Arod as they have been leading us to believe.
Rick, prepared to be shocked. From everything I am reading. He will be suspended and then appeal and he can roughly play about 40 - 50 games all in all if it takes that long for an arbitrator to rule. We have not seen the last of Arod I am afraid.
Unless I heard wrong, I just heard Kay say a little while ago that A-Rod CANNOT play during an appeal.
I read it differently where he can and will play during the appeal unless Bud issues that clause which his is most likely not going to do. I guess we will find out tomorrow.
it depends on how he is suspended... if its the JDA, he can play during the appeal... if its under the best interest of the game, he can't play during the appeal...
Word is he is suspended under the drug rule which means he can play. Which prob means the time will be reduced under an appeal. I think MLB has less than we think.
Well its hard to believe even as delusional as a-rod is that he would travel to chicago if selig is going with the best interests clause so it looks like he will be able to appeal while he plays.(god damn it). One thing a-rod and lawyers might have to be a little wary about however is that evidence in the arbitration hearing is under oath and will readily be available to feds if they pursue biogenesis lab themselves which is looking more and more likely and could put a-rod in legal jeopardy especially if he introduced and distributed peds for some of the other players involved. Still think his best move based on all the perceived evidence was to take the suspension and still have the 60 mill left over afterwards. Lets hope if this goes to arbitration which should be decided by about mid-sept we don't get a similar moron like the one that somehow let braun off last year
You know what would be really funny. And I do say this to be humorous considering the way this season is going. A-Rod comes back, hits great, we go on a winning streak & then BOOM!.. he gets suspended.
Arod, an employee, holds news conference, says he is going to Chicago, Selig AKA Bud Light the Comissioner of Baseball backs down because he wants this to be about A-rod. Per Rosenthal on MLB they will let him play while his suspension is under appeal. Looks like we've been BS'd again.
What it came down to is MLB is spinning that this way, they are hopeful that the players union which says they want offenders sanction get together after the season to amend JDA in regards to the appeal process and forfeiture of salary while serving their respective suspensions.
I hope Arod appeals and gets off entirely somehow. More egg for Selig's face, and the guys that took the deal look like clowns. Hate Arod all you want but MLB made a mockery of this entire thing and they are being called out in their game of chicken. Selig needs to return his 'chicks dig the long ball' t-shirt he wore during his Sosa/McGuire tour. That said, Arod better produce!
What a total shit show this is going to be. Ill be even more interested to see what happens when he plays his 1st game back in Yankee Stadium.
MLB wouldn't be having the issues if the player(s) (Arod) was conforming to the CBA, and basically saying the rules don't apply to me. And so pay me. If you think Selig and MLB is wrong then you must come to the realization that this hurts the game as a whole.
Because Selig sucks and is trying to make a legacy for himself. Bottom line is his new testing didn't catch these guys, and this has grown to this level under his watch. Selig can not retire soon enough. I hate Arod's contract but not more than I hate Selig and everything he is about. The Mitchell report was a joke and he used that as a way to quell the voices when it should have been a time for real action. The fact that he had all of the resources in the world and allowed Mitchell to focus on NY also still doesn't sit well with me. I'm immature about it, sure, but my feelings are still strong enough to not let it go.
A-rod taking the field tonight is a mockery. That hurts the game as much as anything. Sure it will be train wreck worthy and will get massive ratings, but its not good for baseball.
