Homerism is so embarrassing at times. The '72 Lakers would have had a better shot against the 72-win Bull team. The NBA was pretty bad in the late-70s, before Bird and Magic elevated the level of play. The Sonics and Bullets were the two champions after Portland, and neither team had what anyone would call an all-time great franchise player leading them.

That 76er team was 50-32 in the regular season. Hardly some sort of 'dream team'. It took them 7 games to beat a 44-38 Boston team in the playoffs.

History makes it out like the 76ers were invincible.

In their 3 playoffs series, they won 4-3 versus Boston, 4-2 versus Houston (Rudy T was Houston's best player), and lost 4-2 against the Blazers.

Dr J would be LeBron today. He was easily the best player in he NBA. Those 76ers teams were not as deep as the Celtics. Joe Bryant would maybe have been 7th man on the Celtics. When they did add a McHale caliber player to the sixes, they did win the championship.

Geez. He took his team to the finals with a PG with a PER of 11 and a C with a PER of 12.

Elvin Hayes was an elite player.

    Seattle was 16 deep.

    Need the green font?

I don't even know why you try to argue anymore. Neither team had an all-time 'franchise player' leading it. What the fuck are you talking about now? I agree with you that the '98 Bulls are the best team ever. The silly posts about the '78 players got me interested in this thread again.

I expected someone to say that, so I carefully inserted "at offense." Also, Erving was a great dribbler (giant hands) and thus creator, and Pippen was not. (Pippen was better-coached by Jackson, though.)

You're falling for the history pushed by writers hired by Stern on NBA.com.--With the Celtics and Lakers down, the bearded hippie Northwest (Blazers and Sonics) were champions. But hark, White Knight Stern rode in and rescued the fair ladies in Boston and Los Angeles.

And Elvin Hayes was a franchise player, with Wes Unseld a near-one. Sikma was pretty good, too.

So was Brandon Roy. Doesn't mean that they were MVPs of the NBA.

You said Dr. J was "easily" the best player in the game. During that time, Kareem won 3 MVPs, and Dr. J won zero.

You made your own list of MVPs and Dr J was first on your list.

    Won zero? Really?

    Low information fan.

You said franchise player. I said Elvin Hayes. You changed it to MVP.

Pretty hard for an ABA player to win NBA MVP in 75-76. Since you want to include ABA years, sure, let's include the 4 MVP awards held by Erving and McGinnis. LOL yourself.

12-time All Stars aren't franchise players.

FWIW, I think the Bulls executed extremely well, but they also played a sort of scam that was hard to defend.

On offense, Jordan played PF. In the block. Back to the basket. Pippen played PG.

Four of the five starters were 6'7" and pretty much interchangeable.

Ron Harper was no PG. 2.9APG you can get by accident if you passed to Jordan and he made the shot. He was there to guard PGs so Pippen didn't have to chase around smaller PG types. When he sat, that über PG Steve Kerr ran the offense, right? LOL no, he stood around waiting for a pass for an open 3pt attempt.

Guard Jordan with a SF and he'd score in the post at will. Guard him with a PF and he'd rain 3pt shots on you. It was a gimmick.

The 6'7" guys let them pick and choose their match ups. Rodman guarded Greg Foster so Luc could keep that 7' hand in Malone's face. And Rodman was a DPOY at PF.

Consistently good. Game plan you didn't have much time to set up and practice against.

If anything, you have to give it to the team to actually play to win 72, when they could have coasted.

Um, I listed the MVPs from the 1976-77 season to the 1980-81 season in descending chronological order. Are you mentally retarded? It isn't "my list".

Eff it, I give up. The 50-10 Blazer team of 1977-78 is the greatest team ever. It's not worth arguing with idiots, because they only bring you down to their level.
