I think you made my point for me. In a poor draft class, it's not a bad idea to pick McCollum as a surprise winner of ROY/6th man. ROY is pretty attainable in this kind of class. As for 6th man, well, imagine Roy or Lillard were in the same position as McCollum. Would those guys win 6th man of the year (assuming they didn't supplant the starters)? Definitely. I don't think McCollum is as good as those two. He hasn't had as impressive of a summer league. But maybe. That's why we watch the games.
Few things: 1. Wes Mathewss isn't a starter on a good team. 2. CJ is our starting SG, sooner or later. 3. Trey Burke is my favorite for ROY. 4. Giannis Adektobu will be the best player from this draft. 5. CJ should be in the top 5. 6. Mathewss will not be traded until he's an expiring contract. 7. With Wes, Mo still on the team we're too deep at SG for CJ to get major minutes. 8. We aren't deep enough with inside players. 9. Let the cake bake.
You make some good comments here. But I will be shocked if Trey Burke is even in the discussion. He is about as much of a PG as CJ. But I am pretty sure that is where they will be playing him full time. He has a long ways to go IMO.
What is your point exactly? That no one should be ROY because this year's ROY won't be as good as last year's ROY, or next year's ROY? WTF? I don't know what's more irksome: Your stupid dismissal of ROY hypotheticals, or your arrogance in telling us all what we may and may not discuss.
When both myself and a positive Patty poster feel the same way about someone, they are a shitty poster. Congrats to you newb
I'm in the group that thinks CJ just won't get enough minutes to be a real threat to win RoY. I think he will avg almost 20 a game but that won't be enough to displace a full time starter getting 30+ minutes with a green light. I never have understood those that think Mathews is best suited for a six man role, to me it seems like he is best with starters. Savy defender, hustle and scrap guy who won't be outworked and is a great 3 shooter. Then you look at the fact he can't create his own shot and has suspect handles and that to me that shows a perfectly fine starter but not someone you want as your sixth man or instant offense off the bench. I'm with ya. I think it shows an extreme lack of thought to suggest otherwise. Until the SG talent pool dramatically increases, Wes is a bona fide starter.
I agree Wes is the starter on this Blazers team. If anything, I think C.J. is more of the 6th man type than Wes. I think Wes compliments our other starters and provides good defense, while C.J. can come in off the bench and do work handling the ball and providing instant offense without stepping on anyone's toes.
The draft where Roy won Rookie of the Year it was considered really a poor draft. Not trying to dismiss what your saying but even in terrible drafts there is almost always guys who turn out to be studs. The fact that current NBA players (like Lillard and LA) wanted us to draft him and players who were drafted in his same class think he's special is a great sign. Hopefully he turns out to be a steal.
If CJ Kills it I'm not so sure this trade doesn't get revisited... http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=k9l65ay
I hate the idea of giving up on Meyers Leonard so soon. He's only 21 and was always supposed to be a project. I'm hoping to see him have a better growth curve as he practices against a real center in Robin Lopez. Robin may have some interesting insights into Leonard's game, since he plays like a very, very poor man's version of his brother Brook.
