You'll take being a fanboy and bandwagon fan as a compliment? Nice one! They don't focus on your ed-you-ma-cation up there, huh?
Yes, because you can only be a fan of the team where you went to school. So, say I start being a fan of UO or OSU at age 4 or 7 or whaetever, and I'm 40 now, but I went to Washington, I can only be a fan of Washington? Because 4 years of education and attendance is more than being a die-hard fan for life? Yeah, that makes a whole lotta sense. Stanford people are more illogical than I realized.
I can no longer root for the Blazers. I didn't go to Blazer University and I didn't go to their basketball camps. I went to other basketball camps instead. I did play various sports with a few sons of Blazers - can I still be a fan? :MARIS61: I make a big donation every year to a foundation honoring a former Blazer player - I'm #1 fanboy.
Interesting point. I've had Beaver and Husky friends of mine crack on me and say I can't be a fan of the Ducks because I didn't go there. My grandparents and parents went.......all my best fiends went......I basically lived in Eugene for 5 years while they all attended and I partied. (The HCP took his time getting his life together) I remember going to games at Autzen with my dad all while growing up. We used to roll up to the stadium right before the game started WITHOUT tickets and still get great seats. My Ducks got smashed, but they were great memories. Funny thing is, I know a ton of Duck alum who don't follow the team at all. Weird how that works!
It's hilarious that a Stanford fan would say this, considering the corporate tickets they had to sell in order to renovate the former dump on the farm.
blazerboy is still pretending that he went to Stanford, eh? Regardless, what an absolute disaster of a first post by him in this thread. Stanford fans didn't care at all about the team until Harbaugh. Even the Willingham days were a bit of a joke in terms of fan support. Yet now Stanford makes 3 straight BCS games, and the bandwagon South Bay fans from San Jose finally come to a game or two. As to BG's point, my brother-in-law went to Cal-Davis for undergrad and Cal for his MBA, but has Stanford season tickets because he grew up a Stanford fan in Los Altos.
Since I went to a Division 1AA school (now FCS), I root for the Ducks for real college football. Why not OSU? Joe Avezzano used to have a show I watched when I was a kid where he would go over the game film. I have never seen a coach place more blame on his players and put less on himself. I decided then and there I would not be a Beaver fan, so the Ducks it was.
Oregon is a unique place to live. I haven't lived in a lot of states (3), but I find Oregon to have more quirks and personality than the other places I have lived. After living here for over 20 years, I have come to embrace and really identify with Oregonians and take pride in being a part of the community. So these days, I root for just about any Oregon sports team.
exactly. Now I root Ducks over Beavs in head to head, but I like to see all my Oregon teams on top. I went to UO of one year, and PSU for more, but I never really got into the Vikings, but loved the Ducks. When I was in High School, I wasn't a football fan yet, but I did like the Grateful Dead, and saw them several times at Autzen. Part of my affinity for the Ducks is my love of Autzen, Eugene and all things green. Anyway, however i came to be a Ducks fan first, I am one now, and thats what matters. But like ToB, I will root for the Beavs and the Vikings too.
