We actually liked the Subaru, but they don't get good gas mileage because they're AWD. And actually the Legacy is right around the same price point as the Camry. Just depends on which model. We got the SE, which has a couple of extra frills for a few thousand more. You can get a Camry for 21k.
Can get one of these for about 13K: The Chevy Sonic gets a number of worthwhile additions for 2013. All models get standard Bluetooth phone connectivity and blind-spot mirrors, along with the option of the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system that includes a touchscreen, Bluetooth streaming audio, a navigation app and additional smartphone-compatible services. A new performance-inspired RS model is also added to the roster. If you can tell I can procrastinate all day looking at cars. Worse is I will spend all day shopping boats (at least a handful of days wasted there) and have yet to buy a boat.
You bought a brand new car, and you didn't have to. You paid more than you had to because you wanted certain things that the brand new Camry offered. The difference between a BMW and Camry doesn't justify the price to you, with your circumstances and what you can afford. To others, the price difference between a BMW and a Camry is like choosing between name brand Cheerios or store-brand cereal.
Well funny you ask as I just had to drive down to medford this weekend (for one soccer game but that is a different thread itself). I love that the speed limit is 65 and I'm cursed with knowing how understaffed OSP is. SO while I got comfortable averaging 75 MPH, everyone once in a while I caught myself averaging between 80-90 and took it to 110 when I got pissed at a truck. I'm actually a mellow driver, but it is easy to get up to that speed without even realizing it and when I was going 110, I had both hands on wheel and was fully concentrating but never felt concerned at the speed it was going. BMWs really hug the road well. But overall I rarely take it above 80. My vice is I like to drive around 50-60 on the open road that has a lot of curves and bends to it. The way the car hugs the road around those turns is what I enjoy. But I just know I'm going to get a ticket one of these days doing that and that will slow me down to mellow crusing speeds for at least a year.
Dude, you're telling him he can't use that comparison because it isn't the "regular price". The $3k you paid for your used bike isn't the "regular" price either. Your arguments are looking ridiculous at this point.
This is hilarious. Seriously. You rag on people spending thousands more for a BMW, but you just spent a few thousand more for some "frills". Did you do that for a status symbol? Let me get this straight... If you spend several thousand more on a car that is Natebishop approved, then it is completely justified. But if you spend some thousands more on a non-Natebishop approved car, then it's all about the status. Got it.
You asked why I ride my bike and not a scooter. I said why. The scooters that are made for the freeway are usually more than 3k. He found a bike that is being sold at less than half the retail price. If that doesn't raise red flags, I don't know what to tell you. I bought my 600 to work on it. The 250 that I bought brand new for 4k is a commuter and gets just as good mpg as almost any scooter. The 250 is like the Camry. It might be boring, and less flashy, not a high performance vehicle, but it gets good gas mileage and it's comfortable. The 600 was a bike that I got to customize and work on. Do you do a lot of customization and work on your BMW? Do you even know how to work on it? Just curious. As I said earlier in the thread, the 600 is my toy. The Camry is my transportation.
OH I see, a couple thousand more for things like fog lamps, navigation, moon roof is the same as 10-12k more for a BMW? You're hilarious. We paid a little more for function. Not sure how that equates to status.
I know how that feels. When I ride my 600 I can barely turn the grip and I'm at 95. I've never gone over 100 because... well.... I don't think it's worth the risk. I think you get hand cuffs if they catch you going over 100.
Funny story.... I had my E63 years ago and I usually love driving +100 on the freeway to my son's school (without him in the car of course). Anyway, I was racing down the freeway (probably around 120 mph) and I noticed this car coming up on me. After realizing that this wasn't a black and white, I decided to play around with the driver. The moment he got close; I gunned it going at least 135-140 and smoking him to wear he was barely visible. Then I would slow down enough for him to catch up to me, only to gun it again. Rinse and Repeat. So the moment I got to my exit, I began to turn into the off-ramp. Waiting for the light, I noticed that the car I was playing around with was an undercover cop. When the light went green, he turned on his lights and pulled me over. When he got out, he raced to my car and told me to give him my keys. He then called a local sheriff to come to the location. He screamed "How the fuck you think its okay to drive over 130 mph on the freeway?!" I simply replied, "Officer, I don't believe I was going that fast but if you show me the radar shot to prove I was going that fast, then I may believe him" After keeping me in my car for about 30 minutes, he walked back with the local sheriff and said "We have the right to tow your vehicle and arrest you for reckless driving". I replied again, "Officer, I don't believe I was going that fast and I haven't seen proof that you or any police officer, proving I was going that fast" The local officer yelled "Stop being a fucking smart ass and admit that you went that fast!" I replied "I will not admit to anything I don't believe I DID!" I also added that I was picking up my son from school and if I am unlawfully arrested, I will file a civil suit to his department for child endangerment. The cop told me to get out of my car. I asked again "Are you arresting me?" He screamed "Fucking get out of the car or I will arrest you!" I replied "I am only getting out of my car because I feel threatened by his accosting demeanor and do not want physical harm. When I was out, he went right in my face and told me that I am some rich smart ass that thinks he can get away with this shit. I replied that I am not a smart ass and just know my rights. Either give me proof that I committed this infraction or let me go. All the while the other officer was writing me a ticket. On the ticket it said "Driving 140+". I told both of them they better be in court, because I will most definitely fight this ticket. They said they would both be there. Finally, my court day comes and I have everything prepared. I was ready to cross examine the under cover about his training methods for pacing a vehicle, credentials, and how many training days he had on pacing. I also had a few sections on how the local police cannot issue me a ticket because that officer did not witness the violation, etc. I looked around for the undercover, since I knew that officer was the only one that could bust me. I only saw the local police officer and she starred right at me. I waved and whispered; "I hope you know you are not a credible witness". She scowled at me and sat with the chippies and other law enforcement. I could see her talking with the Chippies as they would look at me, then look at her. Eventually I saw her stand up and walk towards the bench. About 5 minutes later, I hear that my case was dropped and as the officer walked out, she whispered "You are fucking lucky!"
I will admit that the moment I saw him pull behind me, I told myself "Oh fucking shit! I'm going to jail!"
I don't think it's worth it, but I'm really cheap. My current firm and last two firms paid for me to fly business class/first class and I always buy coach and keep the difference.
With as much as I like to say I'm into cars, I don't even know. It started as negotiations for a lease (under the business, easier that way) and I agreed to the price they were going to sell the car. (Bought in Dec 2011 and they priced it 12K below sticker to make the lease work) But they told me the residual amount was not negotiable and was based on the sticker price (bunch of BS if ask me). I was thinking about buying the car at the end (I baby my cars and couldn't believe I was returning a car in mint condition, didn't buy last one because I want an AWD living in the hills but determined to buy my next lease). Anyways after about 6 hours at the dealership, I decided to buy the car at the selling price they put on the lease and then personally lease the car to my business. It was a headache finding out if I can do this and honestly I got worn down. So while I don't care if the model is changing if I'm leasing, I hate buying a new car only to find out they change the body style the nest year. Didn't even think about it until after I drove off the lot and didn't want to research it after bought car because afraid of answer. I don't see much difference in the newer models, at least that is what I tell myself. Don't know why I threw all that out there on your question but for some reason thought you might find that story interesting.
