I have seen a number of different reports... http://data.newsday.com/long-island/data/baseball/mlb-salaries-2013/ had the Yankees at $232,998,561 but when you add up the players’ salaries they come to $229,898,561 (I'm assuming Cashman is the 3.1 M?) But in those numbers, it says Vernon Wells was $24,642,857 (I thought it was $21M) but I thought the Yankees are only responsible for $11.5M of Vernon Wells's salary this season. Take out the $13,142,857 from the 229,898,561 and you end up with $216,755,704. According to http://deadspin.com/2013-payrolls-and-salaries-for-every-mlb-team-462765594 the salary for the team (the figure is the adjusted payroll, which takes into account cash received in trades, prorated signing bonuses, and other tweaks) is $228,995,945. According to http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/lists/top-mlb-team-payrolls-on-opening-day-2013-011513#photo-title=New+York+Yankees&photo=30871781, the Yankees payroll is $228.99M According to http://www.sportscity.com/mlb/salaries/new-york-yankees-salaries/, the team's payroll is $253,480,561 but also lists Vernon Wells as $24,642,857 (not the $21M or $11.5M) According to http://www.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/al-east/new-york-yankees/, the total team payroll is $228,106,125. But when you add up all the players, you come to (excluding Mark Reynolds who I'm not entirely sure of as he was DFA'd by the Indians on a $6M deal, so I'm not sure what the Yankees are on the hook for and Mike Zagurski who pitched in 1 game after he was DFA'd by Pit who had a minor league contract plus David Adams, Zoilo Almonte, Manny Banuelos, Dellin Betances, Preston Claiborne, Matt Daley, Ramon Flores, Corban Joseph, Brett Marshall, J.R. Murphy, Vidal Nuno, Jose A. Ramirez, Austin Romine, & Nik Turley) $226,914,375 which leaves $1,191,750 unaccounted for and does not include Girardi or Cashman. According to http://www.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/index.php?team=NYA&cyear=2013, the Yankees payroll is $228,106,125. According to http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1769450-yankees-2013-luxury-tax-bill-of-291-million-higher-than-entire-astros-payroll, the payroll (for luxury tax purposes) is $236.2M. (when you add in the luxury tax of $29.1M, they paid $265.3M if the $236.2M is right. I'm trying to figure something out but kinda want the numbers to be right, and don't know which to go with. Thanks in advance
Does anybody know if yanks payoff a-roid after next year (2015) when hopefully most or all of his salary is gone from suspension in 2014 is the cap hit just the 1 time whatever they paid him off with or is it spread out over the remaining 4 years?
...doesn't matter if they pay him off or not...his original salary is still averaged out annually and still counts toward the Lux Tax.
If we don't have to pay A-Rod for next season that's around 25M. Now add on Youlilis 12M Mo 12M Pettirre 12M Grandy 13M & all the others I'm missing, there will be a lot of money to spend on FAs.
it would still count towards the luxury tax next year even if he's suspended which would mean he wouldn't be paid???
...yup, been saying that for awhile. Counting ARod's money, about $135 Mil would be freed up...if Jeter hangs it up it will be nearly $150 Mil.
...that's my understanding, hammer. If he's suspended he loses the money, but I believe his average salary would still count towards the cap...I could be mistaken.
