Multiple sources around the league have reported in the last month that Denver has put out targeted feelers on Faried, gauging his value and demanding very good return. The Nuggets, for their part, deny they've put Faried's name out there at all. Faried is entering the third season of his four-year rookie deal, and given his per-game numbers, he figures to get paid on his next contract. If the Nuggets believe Faried has hit his ceiling, and that his game lacks the all-around polish Brian Shaw has said he wants from his big men, it would make sense for Denver to see what it can get. Let's be clear: Faried has a lot of value, and no trade is ever "likely"; there are just too many roadblocks to go that far. But I'm smelling something here.

The thing with Faried is he is great for where he was picked in the draft. But he is still a bench player IMO. He lacks skills on offense. So I am sure Denver is hoping some other team values him more then they do. I know he has a lot of fans on this board, but I am not sure he is any better than TRob. Which right now is s a back up PF. Denver does not want to pay him starters money.

I actually think that Robinson has a higher ceiling than Faried. Right now Faried is the better player, especially on defense, but I think Robinson could be a much better offensive player.

What is the difference between Faried and JJ Hickson? No one can explain that to me. But people were eager to shoe JJ out of town while whining about how we took Smith over Faried.

    I'd do Faried for T-Rob + Leonard.

    But Denver probably wouldn't.

They'll probably end up asking too much then ending up letting him walk in free agency.

Faried's moms are lesbians, that's the difference.

Faried is just a better all-around player.

    Better defensive rating - 102 to Hickson's 106
    Better offensive rating - 116 to Hickson's 113

    Beter win shares - 7.8 to Hickson's 6.9

Hickson is a better rebounder, but Faried is a better defender.

I thought we were done using defensive rating?

    Come on.

How about the eye test? I can visually see that Faried is a much better defender than Hickson.

Defensive potential with Joakim Noah-esque energy. He also has the length (9'0" reach) to play a little five as well. FWIW, his reach is identical to Meyers.

Though, last season he stopped attacking the rim like he used to and started shooting that mid-range jumper.

Annoys the fuck out of me. Even DMC is starting to shy away from the post for a mid-range jumper.

ZBO did the same thing. Much easier on the body to just sit back and lob 12-15 footers.

Yeah I agree Hickson got a bad rap. He is a legit rotational player and signed to a valuable contract. Blazer fans have a need to cast one guy as the scape goat every season. Its a bizarre mindset. Zbo, Jack, Martell, Bayless, Rudy got in some fans doghouse and all their positives were ignored while their negatives were focused on. Goes back to the days of fans whining for dumping Rasheed as it would be addition by subtraction but it instead led to 5 years of lottery hell.

Hickson had many great plays last year and often outplayed LaMarcus. If we had twin Hicksons the team would've been much better, the problem was our bench.

Well depends on the contract he wants and how he'd fit into the lineup. You'd like to give him 25ish minutes but behind LMA he isn't going to get that.

My only concern about Faried is that he seems to have a chip that states he's a starter. I wonder if he is a bit of a head case.

Except the first question was what the difference is between Faried and Hickson, and one of Hickson's knocks is that he's a horrible defender. Faried is not. This is measurable in many ways, IE more blocks, more steals, better defensive rating, better defensive win share. Hickson is a slightly better rebounder and has a more polished offensive game, but people love Faried for his energy and his defense.

The only real reason to trade for Faried is if we were going to overpay him next year and keep him because we would give up a lot for a backup PF who is fairly limited. Something we don't need to do unless were sure LA leaves and if were sure LA leaves i'd rather overpay Millsap then Faried.
