After watching the highlight of it a few times it catches me as more of a stupid shot then anything else. No one watching that should really be mad because he wasn't trying to emphatically dunk and get his triple double or trying hard to do it, he just shoots the ball at the end of the game and doesn't even celebrate or really react after it goes in.
Something tells me that's not the first time you've offered to facetime with some guys you met on a message board.
The 'run the clock down without shooting' protocol/custom is stupid anyway. Just another symptom of the 'chummy brotherhood' NBA these days. You don't want the shot taken? Then don't be heading off of court with time still left on the clock. Simple.
Meh, who cares? A win is a win and loss is loss. It won't affect the standings one bit. There is no margin of victory in the standings. OK, it is the 7th tie breaker when determining playoff seeding. I seriously doubt if a single player on either team knows that. I don't think the NBA has ever had to go beyond the 4th tie breaker. If San Antonio wants to be pissed about something, they should be pissed at themselves for giving up 115 points and letting us shoot .556 FG%. BNM
I agree with BGD tons of fans here would be pissed if this was another team that did the same thing. Its a cheap way to get a tripD. Nic said it was a mistake. I'm not sure why theres so many delusional fans here that don't accept that. Its not a big deal, but its something that if you can do over he should do differently next time.
Kind of cheap, but he owned it after the game and the Spurs didn't seem too worried about it. Tempest in a teapot.
My league pass was choppy as shit so I didn't see it, but people throw up shots all the time at the end of games, only reasons it matters is the triple dub, but the alternative (him missing the shot) is even more embarrassing, so I think he dodged a bullet. Good for him though
I noticed during the game, how many US born players do the spurs have? 2? Leonard/ green/ umm pendy? So weird.
I thought MB said during the broadcast the Spurs have players from 10 different countries. Quite diverse group, by NBA standards.
That's the real question: Was Batum aware that he needed another bucket to get a triple double or was he just throwing it up for the heck of it? If he was trying to get a triple double, then it was bush league.
In any event the Blazers won the game regardless of the triple double. So yes it was bush league. Now HCP is telling us that he was challenged by Tony Parker to take the shot? This still doesn't make it right but it does put a little different spin on things. As good as TP is I don't think he is the sharpest knife in the drawer either. So what is this going to be the new trend in the NBA now? Either way, It's bush league.
Just watched it on the archive, batum and parker are chatting about something but that's kinda irrelevant, he asked for the ball hoping to vet fouled, and when he wasn't he put it up. Def a cheap triple dub, but a line of 8/12/11 ain't so bad either
You play until the whistle or buzzer. I have no problems with it. The whole thing about how its not respectful to the other team is bullshit. Stomp their faces into the dirt and when they try to come up again stomp em again. Basketball and getting to the playoffs is cutthroat. Play to win baby.
Game was close enough to justify it, not like after a timeout with 1 second to go, and any player who got his feelings hurt by it should just quit the league.
Well like I said I would love to see another player from another team do it to the Blazers just for the reaction because I think most of the fans would be singing a different tune. Say Kobe Bryant? Then again I think Kobe has more class than that.
I really couldn't care less. If the team already lost, at that point I'm too annoyed to care what the other team is doing.
