the knicks are a worse TEAM than the blazers without Tyson Chandler playing. Melo is a better player than Wes/Nic/Lopez and the gains made by increasing our talent would outweigh the drop in chemistry while they learn to play together. With so many teams going small you can run with a starting 5 of Dame/Shump/Wright/Melo/LMA

 

I appreciate you trying to pull some of the rookie hate off me, good lookin out man.

 

I want a dude that just dropped 33 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 block all on over 50% shooting. Pair him with LMA and Dame and we'd be the #1 team in the league.

 

I would love to see Carmelo on our team, if:

1. He would play within Stott's system;
2. There were some sort of reasonable trade package that made sense to both the Knicks and Blazers;
3. He would be content playing in a small market like Portland; and
4. He would agree to re-sign with the Blazers at a manageable salary.

Since absolutely none of those thing is true, why the hell are you going on and on about Carmelo for?

 

No thanks. Basketball is a team sport, and I'll take the TEAM that lead the entire game and coasted to a double digit win. Let the selfish "superstar" stay in NY where he belongs.

No, it's not. Apparently you're new here, but the ENTIRE reason we let J.J. Hickson (he of superior INDIVIDUAL stats) walk and traded for Robin Lopez is that Aldridge did NOT want to play center and wanted a "big body who could bang down low for 25 minutes a night". That's EXACTLY what Lopez is and it's working like a charm. Trading away Lopez, Matthews and Batum for the ballhog Carmelo Anthony guts a team that is 13-2, destroys team chemistry and forces our best player to play out of position. So, then what? Aldridge and Anthony BOTH refuse to resign with Portland and we have nothing to show for it.

Yeah, nice trade.

If he's a so-called superstar, his team would not be 3-10. LeBron played on some truly atrocious teams in Cleveland, but they never lost 70% of their games. I don't want Carmelo Anthony and he wouldn't want to be here. So, the point is moot. He forced his way out of Denver because he ONLY wanted to play in the New York city area. He'd never be happy in Portland and would never resign here (unless it was a sign and trade as he forced his way out of town).

Can we please change the title of this thread to "Trades that make the Blazers Better"? It seems like some posters misunderstood the OP's intent. Somehow, I don't think trades that move the needle in the negative direction are what he was after.

Aldridge doesn't WANT to play center but he can. If he would commit to it he would be one of the top centers in the game, just look at Duncan. He has spent large chunks of his career playing center for San Antonio. Not to mention guys like Al Horford, Al Jefferson, Greg Monroe, Chris Bosh all have made that sacrifice as well. I don't see how LMA insisting he only play the 4 is not incredibly selfish when it would benefit the team. He has it in his head so much what position he is that he won't slide over and man up

 

we're what, 1/7 of the way through the season? I will guarantee the Knicks win more than 25 games this year. Melo has been in the playoffs every year of his career, something LeBron can't say

 

The Knicks were missing their second best player, who they have no replacement for.

 

The Spurs have always had a center in for major minutes of the rotation to help out Duncan, especially in the regular season.

Mr Ponder guy poster; I think you’d be more happy rooting for the Knicks. You can watch other ball hogs like JR Smith and talk about how elite they are one on one against other players. You will be right too, they are great scorers; but many of us strongly believe they don’t help a team win. I think you have the same appreciation and taste for the game of basketball as James Dolan.

OK, good we agree, Melo isn't a superstar and doesn't make people around him better.

FWIW, Lebron played on one losing team in Cleveland during his rookie year.

 

Is that 25 wins this YEAR (as in by December 31, 2013) or this season? Such a lofty goal for a team with the second highest payroll in the league! The Blazers are on track to reach 25 wins before December 31, 2013 . The Knicks are barely on pace to reach 25 wins by December 31, 2014. Tell me again why we'd want to trade 3 of our starters for 2 of their's.
