I meant to say this was on MLB Network Cano Stats and he wants around 200 mil AB 1374 HR 204 RBI 822 SB 38 OBP 355 SLG 504 OPS 859 BA 309 Player A and he was paid 138 mil for 8 yrs AB 1374 HR 222 RBI 876 SB 183 OBP 382 SLG 506 OPS 888 BA 301 And this will give it away, they both play in New York....Both play great defense...
...yeah, I think they showed something like that on MLB Network...if I had to choose between Wright and Cano I'd probably flip a coin. ...hopefully, the Yanx will toe the line at 7 years.
That is exactly right, 7 years and more money than Ellsbury, that should be the deal, but the Yankees will cave and it will be 8 years and 200 mil. What is being loss in this is the signing of Kelly Johnson, what a great support piece... Really. So that says to me you can have a package of Nunez, Gardner, and Sanchez for Headley... It's Christmas and I can dream.
But the if you are only a numbers guy, Wright holds up to the argument of justified dollars. And Rusty you bring up what I want to emphasize, that there is so many variable when a team tries to value a players worth and it's different for each team.
Player C GP 715 HR 65 RBI 314 SB 241 OBP .350 SLG .439 OPS .789 BA .297 this guy just got 153million for 7 years..... so he is better than Wright? Not to mention that Wright plays in a pitcher friendly park vs Cano and Player C.....
So wait and see what Cano gets and your argument is answered. No, my answer is all three are exceptional major league players who given the teams roster make up has more value than others.
how so, they are paying Ellsbury to be a 20 hr kind of player with speed and on base...not brett gardner power
...no, they're not paying Elsbury to be a HR hitter...and Elsbury is a completely different type player than Wright and Cano. I don't understand comparing 2Bmen and 3Bmen to CFers...the Yanx were not trying to sign David Wright, they were after by far the best OFer on the market. And by signing McCann it also means that if the Yanx manage to also resign Cano, they will have signed the top 3 FAs of this off-season...that's an awesome upgrade. ...did the Yanx over pay Elsbury?...of course, they generally do...and most all FAs are over paid...not exactly news. ...earlier you pointed to Elsbury not having Fenway to inflate his numbers anymore...actually, if anything, many of his numbers will be higher at YS. ...also, Wright will be older than Elsbury when his contract ends...so the Elbsury signing is bad but the Wright contract is good?
no but in my opinion they WAY overpaid Ellsbury and I brough up Wright and Cano as prime examples of what salary range Ellsbury should be in ...his payroll should be lesser than Wright and Cano he is not on the same playing field as those two. I hope to be wrong and if I am ill be here stating so. But to pay that much to Ellbsury a glorified upgrade of Gardner only can hurt not signing other more productive players in the near future. Whether that is Cano, or whether that is taking on a trade from another team for a player with a big contract.
...no, Wright decided to stay with the Mets and gave them a discount and in his words, "never seriously considered wearing another uniform"...and you can't say what this year's contracts should be based on last years contracts because the market can change and depends on what the market at that time will bear. So again, yes, IMO, you are comparing apple to oranges. ...and for the 3rd time I'll ask you who these theoretical "other players" in the future are?...do they have an actual name?...and in the meantime, do the Yanx just throw in the towel for the next couple of years?...I'm sorry, but what I keep trying to tell you is that the Yanx don't work that way. Revenue was way down last year because the fans wouldn't come to see a AA team and the Steins are trying to remedy that by spending money to make more money and they are not inclined to wait 2 years.
fine you win...spend money for a guy like Ellsbury and get better Gardner numbers instead of leaving something in the bank for down the road...Ellsbury is going to lead this team...going to carry them like no one has ever done before... This dude is getting more money than Miguel Cabrera..>REALLY< 3rd biggest outfielder deal in the history of the major leagues.... THINK ABOUT THAT.
yeah, retaining Cano is obviously huge...I just know I feel a whole lot better about 2014 than I did a month ago.
Just heard on Intentional Talk that Seattle will allegedly give Cano better than 200 Mil & 8 years if you can believe Rose and his redneck sidekick. Seattle has talked to a lot of free agents over the last couple of seasons but no one has been hot on going out there. Yep, Robbie can get that 200 mil plus and get paid but Seattle, where are they going. Meanwhile we hope the Yankees can plug their own holes, and there are quite a few at this point in time.
