That's it, precisely. We chant for effort (largely defensive), and for most of LMA's career he just hasn't been a "hustle" player, and so he hasn't received a chant in his honor. But this season he's actually doing some dirty work and getting some crowd-love for it. Hopefully he recognizes this, and continues to reward us with hard work so the crowd continues to reward him with chants. Also, I think there's a distinct difference between a "Play-er Na-ame" chant and an "MVP" chant. MVP is an offensive-recognition chant, whereas the other is for hustle/defense. I hope that at some point Freeland gets a chant. He hasn't had that berzerk game to earn one yet, but it seems like it's just waiting to happen. His name is going to be tough to chant though.
In past seasons, Aldridge got no after-game cheering because he almost always sucked late in the game. When heroics were required, he passed to someone else. There were a tiny number of exceptions, of course.
They're going to keep chanting it, but they really shouldn't. An MVP chant should be reserved for amazing performances only.
Disagree. TO that level of player, or player getting to that level, it'll happen nightly. And should. Hammer it into the minds of the media.
LaMarcus Aldridge will not win MVP, and it just comes off as desperate to chant it every night. It also loses it's magic quick if you do it all the time.
I don't disagree, but I'll wait for a non-amazing performance to occur before I bust anyone's chops about it. I think +45 20/15/4/2stl with 0 turnovers and fouls is amazing.
I'm not saying he had a bad game. I just think the MVP chant should be reserved for great performances during great games.

You must have missed the "great games" part of my post. A blowout against one of the worst teams in the league is not a great game in my opinion. No clutch time competiveness, no MVP chant for me.
OK. Just keep a look out for a flying Gladius if you go to a game and give some fan the stink eye for chanting MVP.
Mike Fratello right now saying Aldridge should be in conversation for MVP. This is amazing. Especially since people actually wanted to trade him to have a chance to get a teenager who may or not be great.
If we finish with the best record in the league, LaMarcus Aldridge will win MVP. That's how Rose won it. Be the best player on the best team. Aldridge has a very real shot at this.
