Ya'll are crazy for underrating Asik so much. He would make us an instant contender. I'd really like to keep Robin though. CJ and Leonard should be the deal. Crabbe can take CJ's minutes.

So...Asik would make the Blazers "instant" contenders, but it would take an injured unproven rookie and a guy who doesn't play defense and is only still in the league because he's tall just to trade for him?

And if he makes us instant contenders, why isn't the same true of Houston, with him?

Besides the fact it would take more than CJ and Meyers (due to salary cap restrictions), Asik has had 1 good year. Yes, he's played a higher % of his games than Robin, but his per 36 #s aren't any better than Robins. Actually, in most cases, they're worse.

His FT% makes him a liability late in games. His defensive ratings, once he got minutes with Houston, aren't significantly better than Lopez #'s in Portland. And his offensive ratings are much worse. Actually, his offensive ratings are worse by a bigger # than his defensive #'s are better (this year. Career wise, it's a wash).

I'm not saying Asik is a bum (it's not a case of he's awesome or he's a bum with no middle ground), but that maybe if he had earned the right to bitch about his playing time or was an all star, I could see how him "demanding" a trade is just someone who has no real clear perspective on his actual talents.

Asik wants to start. Is that so bad? Maybe if you'd want him as a bench player, he wouldn't be so happy.

Houston made certain assurances to him, one being that he'd start. I can see why he's upset. He could have remained with the Bulls if he wanted to be a backup. Chicago had the best record in the NBA, with him.

The first trade I came up with that works per CBA is CJ, Freeland, and Claver. None of those guys really help Houston, but it does give them some chips to trade.

Asik would be a great fit in Miami, but I really don't see Houston parting with Lin, too, to satisfy the CBA for Bosh. I do think Miami would do that deal.

I think it's possible Asik won't be traded. Nobody's going to want him, and Houston probably won't take end of bench fodder for him. He is playing, and they are winning.

No damn way I trade Lopez for Asik. If they want some combination of our backups and projects, we can talk. They are desperate to trade him; the Blazers are the hottest team in the league with the centers we have. We don't 'need' to do anything.

Where were the Mavs ranked in defense the year they won the championship? I'm curious.

We know. We undervalue him like we over-value Lillard, and Matthews, and Batum, and Aldridge, and Lopez. Silly Blazer fans. 107 points in 3 quarters? I digress.

This is really the point. It's not that Asik is a down-grade or up-grade, it's that he's a bad fit because he's upset about not starting and being THE center. The only way that fits with Portland is to trade Lopez. And for a Blazer team that hasn't see this kind of chemistry in TWO decades, it would be a HUGE gamble to trade Lopez (and perhaps a trade exception or filler) for Asik.

Why in the hell would we do this? Even if you do think Asik is better than Lopez, you can't think it's by that much, and we fit so well together. It would just make no sense.

Switching out Lopez for Asik would make us an instant contender? How so?

I really don't understand why people think so highly of Asik. He's a good defender and rebounder. He's awful at offense. Lopez is a good defender and rebounder, and also has a decent offensive game.

I loved him, but Joel Przybilla never made anyone a contender.

Sorry, but our starting five is playing some of the best ball we've ever seen in this city. There's no legitimate reason to break that up. I don't care if Asik is an upgrade, which I'm not convinced that he is, you don't mess with a good thing.

Probably the thing I love most about Lopez is that even though he doesn't need shots, he's not a complete goof on offense. If you leave him open, he's going to score on you. The Thunder tried ignoring him and focusing on the 4 others during the last game and Lopez ate up those free points. They stopped leaving him in the 2nd half and LA got going, all because you can't leave Robin. Of all the regulars on this team Lopez is actually second in offensive rating at 118. If we're strictly talking rim protection, yeah Asik is probably better than Lopez, but Asik is absolute garbage on offense. He's never had an offensive rating over 105 and at 27 years of age, I doubt he'll ever be anything more than borderline adequate. Robin helps keep this number 1 offense humming.

    107.6 offensive rating

    102.3 defensive rating

    5.3 net rating (7th)

For comparison, the Blazer of this season:

    109.4 offensive rating

    103.1 defensive rating

    6.3 net rating (5th)

Well said. When they'd double Aldrdge and deny entry, Robin would flash to the FT line and receive the ball from batum. From there, it was either they cover him, and he could enter to LA which happens often, or, you leave him alone, and he has a rhythm 15 foot jumper which he is capable of knocking down. Like you said, he knocked down a few, they stopped, Aldridge got going. Pass it to Asik there, he either fumbles the pass, or, they let him take and miss the 15 footer every time.
I like Asik, and think the criticism of him in here is starting to swing to far, but I have no interest in a straight swap of Robin for Asik.

Asik only has one more year left on his contract, so it's not like the Rockets are desperate for a salary dump. I think all we'd give up is a scrub package, like Leonard, Freeland and Barton.

And actually, Joel in his prime was much better than Asik right now. Joel had one of the best rebounding percentages since they started tracking that stat, and a great block % too. I'd love to have him in his prime on this team.

I like how they list Wright, Freeland, and Robinson as questionable contracts. It's amazing how much the NBA has changed that a 3 million per year contract is "questionable."

    This one was funny.

Yeah, every year. As in, three times since 1970.

He's a good defender yet the Blazers are ranked 22nd on defense? Quit drinking the cool-aid.
