Gammons and other speculated that Drew is waiting on a Yankee offer. Could Jeter be moving to 3B. That would solve so many problems and preserve Jeter. 1B Tex 2B Roberts/Johnson SS Drew 3B Jeter http://www.chatsports.com/new-york-yankees/a/Gammons-Drew-Waiting-On-Yankees-2-9024257
I love Jeter but if he didn't move for A-Rod I really don't see him moving for Drew. If anything I could see them asking Drew to man 3B for this one season & then taking over short for 2015 & going forward. I'd like to see this pick up happen.
...only problem rick, is that at 3B Drew would be out of position which would mean that with Jeter at SS, the left side of the IF would be suspect because Jeter's range is almost nonexistent....and Drew is so much better at SS and Jeter's lack of range at 3B would not be as crucial. ...yes, Jeter wouldn't move to 3B for ARod, but that was in 2004 when Jeter was still 29-30 years old and still a decent SS. Now, nearly 10 years later, we don't even know if Jeter can even stay healthy long enough to play 3B, much less SS.
I think he would otherwise he is putting himself before team, which I hope is not the case as he enters the twilight of his career.
...^^^yeah, I would think that the last thing Jeter would want to do is to tarnish legacy by embarrassing himself at SS during his "farewell tour".
Remember his gesture with Ripken at the All Star game, I think Jeter gets it. And as you pointed out, He shouldn't have moved for Arod then.
Not for nothing but we may all just be assuming that this is Jeters last season. Honestly if he hits 280+ for the year I wouldn't be surprised if he hangs around for another year. Personally I wish he'd announce his retirement as this being his final season so he can get that Chipper Jones / Mariano Rivera farewell treatment.
I get the feeling that he thinks he's got more than 1 year left. If he didn't have the year he had in 2012 I think he could leave, but with every AB, he's moving up in the record books, and I think until he knows he doesn't have it, he's in for as long as he can be productive.
Of course I'm hoping for another 300 season from Jeter but, I would also like to believe though that if he's hitting 240-250 at mid season that he sees the writing on the wall and announcers that this season will be his last.
I think Jete moves to 3B, as going to his left is easier on his left ankle, vs going to the right. Then there is the homage to Ripken.
