I was a supporter of Wright in the beginning... but everything I was high on him with has turned out to be what I'm not liking about him now... smart plays, good shots. Then he started thinking he could drive to the hoop, and that all went away.
Yeah I'm souring on him too. I think he had a few struggles and now he's trying to make up for it by doing things outside his comfort zone. All he needs to do is take open shots and play hard on D.
I have more hope that wright will come around with the right bench player, than Mo being able to run the second unit. We need a playmaker for our second unit, IMO. I think we need Batum to play point on the second unit and have wright in. I propose using a line-up of Batum, Wright, Mo (as a SG), Leonard and Lopez or Aldridge and Freeland or T. Rob. If Mo wants to be a scorer, let Batum decide when to use him. I don't like giving Mo the keys to the second unit any longer.
The idea of subbing DW early, then have Batum on the court with him when Wes rests sounds interesting. Not for sure if that would make him box out or be in position defensively though. I have little faith in CJ being the answer to getting guys involved on the second unit. As others have said, he gave no indication in summer league and his turnover rate in college was pretty bad.
I'm tired of Damian playing SG with Mo at PG. Just stop, or get a real backup PG, or use Watson. I would much rather have Mo play SG than PG. But would he get abused even more on defense? CJ, like Mo, seems more like a small SG who can create a mid-range shot, than a PG. We'll see, I guess. It would seem pointless to play Mo and CJ together, with Mo playing the point. Pointless as in CJ would have nothing to do but run around like a decoy. If they play together, I hope CJ can handle PG duties and distribute the ball to Mo and Wright.
To be fair, it doesn't tell much of the story at all. Philly was in active tank mode in the offseason, getting rid of vets left and right in favor of cap savings and a better shot at the '14 draft class. The way you've positioned it makes it seem like poor play was the entire story.
McCollum's scrub sub at PG (I forgot his name) ran the offense much more orderly than McCollum, yet had the same SL disadvantages McCollum did. That was an advantage, not a disadvantage. Our blue chip roster should have made McCollum's job easier. We had more draftees than any other SL team. Most teams had 1 1st round rookie and 1 2nd rounder. We had 6 or 7, most entering their 2nd years.
I don't think so. All the teams we faced in the summer league, are playing decent minutes on their respected team. You picked the most experienced 3 teams out of 31 teams in the tournament, yet none of the 3 had the 7 or 8 draftees (depending on whether you include Terrell) that we had. So your link proved my point. Barton, Claver, Crabbe, Freeland, Leonard, McCollum, Robinson, Terrell.
Like I said a few weeks ago, Wright isn't much better than Babbitt was. But at least Babbitt hit his three's.
I would like to see Crabbe at least for a few minutes. I just want to see if his shooting can translate during actual game time and not garbage time.
