Besides the fact that this is obviously a more complicated situation than is being portrayed, I don't understand the outrage. Illegals are not going away no matter what we do, what's wrong with having them pay taxes and contributing to society with skills they have?

Why not? Because it's the law?

The law is inhumane and wrong, so fuck it.

For me the 'outrage' has to do with the lies we've been fed for years about illegals only wanting work that US citizens don't want. It was a lie then and it's a lie now.

I realize that it's not going to change. The Democrats want the votes the illegal agenda brings them and the Republicans want cheap labor. Who's going to rock the boat?

That doesn't mean it doesn't piss me off.

There are probably a billion people that would like to come to the US. Why should latinos go to the front of the line over all other countries in the world?

I would say thats largely true but not completely true. The examples you give are good ones of problem areas, trade type jobs suffer badly from immigration issues especially in the SW. Seems like our current policy is to pretend like the problem doesnt exist rather than dealing with it on a real level though. For instance making illegals pay taxes by legitimately working will help everyone in those industries and drive prices for labor up as cheaper illegal options will be less.

If you were homeless and had no where to go . . . I probably still wouldn't want you breaking into my house. But given the fact you had and no ill will and even made my house a better place to live, I wouldn't press charges.

But I could see how that would piss a lot of people off.

I figured, but the way your entire post was written, I was starting to think maybe you were just off your rocker.

I like the idea of hiring a lawyer to mow my lawn.

Did I say that? I don't know where you're getting that from.

I don't want to put words into Oldguy's mouth, but I think that the immigration wait is crappy for a lot of people, and yet a Software Engineer in Shanghai who wants to work at Amazon can't sidestep the visa process by just walking across the border and walking into Corporate and filling out an application. A wannabe Med student in Zimbabwe can't get on the plane until she gets a visa. Yet all someone has to do is hitch a ride into LA/SF/etc and they're in, which gives a pretty decent advantage to Mexican/Central American/South American countries (especially with Mexico's hypocritical policies on immigration)--most of whose citizens are of latino descent.

Which is why it needs to be easier for the Chinese and Zimbabwean immigrants to get here. I don't see how it takes away from my view, and I definitely don't think latinos should be punished simply because they live closer to America. You, Oldguy, and I are only Americans because of where we were born as well.

God bless him for working so hard.

Fuck him for being a lawyer.

What kept his green card application from being approved?

I think it should be easier as well. easier to gain US citizen status, maybe not easier to gain entrance to our country for that purpose (you probably disagree with the, but I digress)

It's not though, and because it's not people have to abide by the laws.

I think the speed limit should be 75, but it's not and I get a ticket if I get caught going that fast

A lot of the cases you mentioned it is easier for them to get here legally as they have a skill or are coming from money to support their stay. There is a vast difference between professional or rich immigrants and poor ones. The fact that most of the poor ones we see are latino only has to do with the proximity of those countries.

Well, technically, I've served in the military in time of war, so I've earned naturalization.

For the record, I have no problem with anyone who wants to go through the biometrics, interview and oath to become a naturalized citizen. But that always keeps getting shot down when approached in Congress. :dunno:

Ever since I posted on here that my father legally immigrated to this country, joined the military and then became a citizen while in the military Mediocre Man has made repeated claims that I moderate this forum with a bias towards white people.

I guess I had never heard anyone refer to our immigration laws as inhuman and wrong except in reference to making illegal latinos, leave once they come here by breaking the law.

    My bad.
