I don't think we should ignore sexism or racism, but I think we should also be conscious of the other side of it. There are men who are in abusive relationships that receive no help because they're men. All I want is for people to be punished fairly. How is a man supposed to feel if he's in an abusive relationship with a woman who physically abuses him but he can't defend himself for fear of being arrested and shunned? I think it's horrible that some men feel trapped and alone because they can't tell anyone that they're in an abusive relationship. If a woman hits a man. She should be arrested. If anyone hits anyone, they should be punished the same. That's all that I ask. Similarly, if a poster personally insults another poster, they should be punished. It shouldn't matter if they're a man or woman. My only point on that is that whore is still a generic insult. MM doesn't know anything about BF. He only knows that she's a woman. I agree that there's a double standard about promiscuity, but in this case I'm merely pointing out that it's a general insult thrown at the wall hoping it will stick. It has no bearing because we know nothing about BF or her sexual promiscuity. If I call you a virgin, and you're not a virgin, does it hurt your feelings? Anyway, I guess my point in all this is that we should all be treated equally and all punishments should be doled out evenly. MM had been toeing the line very closely as of late, and this was probably coming. This was just the straw that broke the camels back.
In the interest of further transparency, nobody's been banned or suspended as a knee-jerk reaction by a mod. When the mods have brought up a poster who's been a problem, the typical action on our part has been to see if time heals things. It's just downright silly to be banning and suspending people with lots of posts (a measure of sincerity and loyalty) because of a single post or even a few days' worth of "bad" behavior (bad being in the eye of the beholder, no?). The number of people who actually get discussed in the staff forum is less than 10 since 2008. Not including barfo. We discuss him all the time.
I do wonder what the difference between moderation of insults and insulting things should be. It seems that insults with malicious intent should be edited and repeat offenders punished more severely. That seems to be the case here. With regards to Zags' insulting comments, I kind of feel like they shouldn't be edited because they have a natural consequence of having people's opinion of him lowered. People throw around insults like "asshole" and "whore" casually around here, but to take the time and craft some insulting shit has a bigger impact. On the other hand, Sly has straight up deleted some shit MM has said that didn't contain insults but was insulting (or racist, whatever). So maybe some comments that are over the (completely arbitrary) line should be edited or deleted, even if they don't contain "insults." Honestly, I'm on the fence on what is best for the community. Obviously the age old commandment of "don't be a dick" has no sway around here.
Whore? I had no idea that was such an isluting term. Reading through this thread, I get it . . . terrible thing to call someone. I will make sure to refrain using that word when referring to someone. But if that gets you suspended, calling someone these should too: cocksucker shithead motherfucker cumdumpster fuckhole fuckmouth ****bag twat assmucus fucktoy fuckmeat dickhole poleslaw ****sicle retard whore?
See what I did there? He said those words should get you suspended for posting them so I suspended him for posting them. Hahahahahahahaha! Mod humor. I better go un-ban him.
