I think if the money is close at all, between LA and the Yanx, I think he'll go to LA.

Say he goes to LA 59 then where do the Yankees turn to for pitching? The rotation right now will not cut it in the AL East.

There is no great plan b as the remaining pitchers are all overpaid average pitchers.

...if that happens, I think Gardner may be dealt...I still like Bailey, and there have been rumors that he wants out of Cincy.

...or they might go after 1 of 2 of the FAs still out there.

I can remember the same was said about CC's wife and her preference was the West Coast. Just another ploy to gain leverage I hope.

Well said Al. I can't see yanks paying top dollar for any of those guys. In the unlikely event they don't get tanaka I say they either stay in-house pineda, phelps, nuno or banuelos or trade gardner for a pitcher. Also, in this scenario they go get balfour as they'll still be under the 189 mill.

I'm getting a bad feeling that I think Tanaka is going to land in LA. Just a feeling, but if it doesn't come down to money then the Yanks lose.

Not after what the Dodgers just laid out for Kershaw.

Rick, the Dodgers are flush with money, don't count them out, they have become the Yankees of the West.

Dodgers playing serious hardball....they have the money and are NOT about to apologize for it.

Maybe Mike (the weasel) Lupica will take a gulp and gag on it.

If the money is the "same" and this Tanaka kid prefers L.A.over the Yankees...so be it.

Hey, you never know, maybe there is some young pitcher in the Yankee system who has some pride AND BALLS and will step up and make a name for himself.
Heaven knows we've been waiting long enough for another Andy Pettitte type.
    Been a looooong time.

With the farm system the Yankees have (Or lack of same) I'm afraid you'll grow old waiting for another Andy Pettitte. It's just not going to happen anytime soon. As far as Tanaka, hell the guy has all the time on his side, he'll sit back & wait for the highest bidder.

His time is running out rick as he has to be signed by next friday which is 5 more days. So I suspect he is signed by tuesday or wednesday to make sure he actually has all the I's dotted and the t"s crossed before friday

...but whoever signs Tanaka will also be paying "top dollar" for him and all FAs are "overpaid" anyway...and if they do "stay in house" with pitching it will make the acquisitions of MacCann, Elsbury, & Beltran look foolish. And if they sign Balfour I don't see how they'll be under $189 Mil because they're almost there already.

Tanaka's agent is Casey Close, Meter's agent as well. Cashman has to have a rapport with Close. I want to believe that Close will give the Yanks every opportunity to bid higher.

In today's paper they said it was down to 5 teams, Yankees, Dodgers, White Sox, Cubs & Diamondbacks. Honestly I'd be surprised if it wasn't the Yankees or Dodgers among those 5.

...rick, I really don't think people who write for newspapers know any more about the Tanaka situation than we do...I mean, reports seem to change daily.
