Butch Cassidy/Sundance is one of my all-time favorites. Tombstone is a classic. Probably my favorite Val Kilmer film. Magnificent 7 is great. Lonesome Dove. Open Range - you could literally skip 90% of the film and just watch the shootout and that's all you need. Amazing shootout. Does City Slickers count?
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance The Train Robbers Support Your Local Sheriff Support Your Local Gunfighter Paint Your Wagon Paleface Blazing Saddles The Frisco Kid (some of the best acting in a terrible movie ever!)
I remember really liking this when I saw it at the Seattle International Film Festival. But I saw 20+ movies in 3 weeks, so I don't remember it all that much. Time to go look for it on Netflix/Amazon/Hulu.
It's not a Western per se, but "The Horseman" is one of the greatest Afghan "Western"s ever (1971). Now, that's not saying a lot, the storyline is kinda garbage, but Jack Palance is an old buzkashi legend, his son Omar Sharif is trying to prove his manhood the whole time, and surpising couple of boob-seconds from Leigh Taylor-Young. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067216/
UNFORGIVEN and TOMBSTONE stand alone, with 3:10 TO YUMA in 3rd. I also like the Coen Bros' TRUE GRIT, THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES, MAVERICK, SILVERADO and DJANGO. Not sure if I've seen THE SEARCHERS, might have to put that on the list.
I didn't mind the Indian hating angry Wayne. But the idea he was going to waste Natalie Wood sent me into lock n load mode.
Red Dead Redemption!!! (Basically a movie) NOBODY SPOIL THAT GAME FOR ANYONE WHO HASNT PLAYED BUT WANTS TO!
The Quick and the Dead had a lot of great actors in it. Gene Hackmen, Leonard DeCaprio, and Russell Crowe.
