Lillard is on track to being the best 3pt shooting point guard in history. At this year's pace, he'll beat Kidd's record among point guards in career makes in 7.5 years. He'll be 31. I can't remember ever seeing a PG who could shoot this well at this young of an age on such a high volume of shots.

If he stays healthy, with that kind of a long-range shot he could play until he's 39 like Kidd did. Maybe longer. Even after his athleticism leaves him most teams can still use a guy who has icewater in his veins and can hit threes from 4 feet behind the line. Steve Kerr made it to 37 years old and shooting was his only skill.

Lillard plays like he's 30 already, and I expect he'll be able to do so until he's 37 as well.

    Also see Derek Fisher.

Yeah, I was thinking about Curry as I wrote that. Both of those guys are really redifining the position of PG.

Interestingly, Steve Nash, whom everyone considers one of the great shooters in NBA history, never averaged more than 4.7 threes/game in his 17 seasons.

John Stockton, a personal favorite of mine, never averaged even three per game.

Lillard's game is already ready for when the NBA moves the three point line out and widens the court to eliminate the corner three.

Fisher has the ice water, but I really don't think he ever had Lillard's range. Fisher never took a shot 3 feet behind the three point line unless he absolutely had to. Lillard....man, it's got to be scary knowing you have to guard him so far out there on every possession.

That's because they were both great at being PGs. And could play inside the 3-point arc. :MARIS61:

Lillard's shots from 4-5 feet behind the 3-pt line look completely smooth. He has effortless range and great shooting mechanics. That, combined with the killer mentality means he's going to make those shots at crunch time when other guys are tired.

Scores are way up. This is never going to happen IMHO. Scores would go down if it did.

If you look at Dame and Curry in his second year, they're very similar. I can't wait to see Dame in the playoffs. That's where Curry established himself as a star.

Only statistically speaking. Aside from both being great outside shooters, and playing the same position, they aren't very similar at all.

or both being non-"1-and-done"rs from small schools in garbage conferences who are much more effective as shooters than playmakers and have a flair for the dramatic...

It's amazing that Dame is a better three point shooter than Curry at this stage in his career.
